Like Superman/Spiderman, my overriding interest is now seeing truth and justice prevail in the world. That's why I started up this group in Manhattan called SOULFORCENYC which battles back against the anti-gay rhetoric and actions of the religious right using non-violent action. This year, we sponsored the Equality Ride where a group of 32 young adults spent 51 days on a bus criss-crossing America and visiting various Christian colleges and military institutions where they kick you out if you are gay. When they weren't busy getting arrested by those like Pat Robertson who didn't want them on campus, they talked to faculty and students about who they were.
For more about this group, visit soulforce.org or send me your email address ([email protected]) and if you are in the nyc area we would LOVE to have you come to one of our meetings. (By the by... one of the reasons I have so many friends registed on this site is -- not just getting to know some amazing people -- but so I can send out bulletins about our actions and meetings to a wide group of people. Looks a little suspicious I know... It's all good.)
NEVER DOUBT THAT A SMALL GROUP OF THOUGHTFUL, COMMITTED CITIZENS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. INDEED, IT IS THE ONLY THING THAT EVER HAS" -- MARGARET MEAD
More "pedestrian" interests include: LOVE meeting new people, spiritual retreats, road tripping, writing/reading, surfing/skiing/sailing, being in nature, world travel, making money and working on my house in the country.
Through my job I've gotten to meet just about every newsmaker whom I wanted to meet (and even some I didn't want to meet). LOTS of stories there. I LOVE meeting new people. Many don't interest me but the few that do are an AMAZING gift. Almost NOTHING sweeter than meeting new men/women who have a similar energy...
As far as a new partner... Sure let's throw up the ad: Someone smart and adventurous enough to realize that life is about playing a big game. In games you have to follow certain rules, there is money and you can buy stuff just like in some games. Cheating is not allowed. Someone that loves animals and is patient with human beings. Laughing at oneself is a must. Continuous learning should be an integral part of that person's life. Should be able to speak one's mind and defend against injustice and abuse - assertive. Willing to take risks and play along. Growing together is part of life that is amazing. Must enjoy art, music and good design. I like people with whom I can talk about national/world affairs. I promise to learn about the stuff that you like. Should also be ready to speak when called upon (if in the mood) and should be ready to tell me to shut up when I talk too much. I don't really enjoy monologues. If you speak more than two languages that is really amazing. I don't. Should take care of their own mind/body/spirit. I do.
Almost any kind of music that is not rap/heavy metal or Celine Dion. Particular favorites can include Paul Simon, James Blunt, Ultramarine, Propellerheads, Thrill Kill Kult, Tom Waits, Chicane, Dinah Washington, k.d. lang, Randy Newman, R.E.M., Patsy Cline, John Mayer, Pet Shop Boys, Neil Young, Moby, Gilberto and Getz, Jamiraquai, Malcolm McClaren, Coldplay, Charlie Parker and a whole lot more...
Napolean of course. Amelie. Waiting for Guffman. All that Jazz. Billy Elliot. What the Bleep Do We Know? American Beauty. Most Coen Brother movies, especially Raising Arizona. LOVE movies that make me think and/or cry and/or laugh. Love movies with a heart and that's why I am more a fan of foreign films like Cinema Paradiso than American movies.
Guess I sort of got hooked on the reality stuff like Survivor and The Amazing Race. Love Sopranos, Strangers With Candy, some PBS and a lot of British stuff like Litte Britain/AbFab. Favorite NBC show is 30 Rock.
