New 45 "Psychedelic Cissy" coming soon!!!

About Me

West London's premier psych-funkers THE PEAS is a band based around guitar-player/Hammond organ sessionman extraordinaire, Brother Lee. A long-time love of Memphis guitar and New Orleans beats inspired him to break out from his dayjob selling vintage guitars (and night-time session work) to write and record some of his own tunes for a change. After getting a secondhand portastudio from The Young Disciples' Marco Nelson, and a crappy Radio Shack microphone, THE PEAS went to work down in the basement, cooking up a heady funk-soul stew that brought to mind the tough guitar/organ workouts of The Meters and Booker T & The MGs, as well as the looser sounds of Lee Dorsey or Creedence Clearwater Revival, even some Studio One in there too. Throw in a pinch of psychedelia, courtesy of Lee's penchant for the electric sitar and love of Nuggets-era freakouts, and THE PEAS was tastin' mighty fine!! Sure enough, the debut 45 on Malo Records, "Gettin' Some", held nothing back - a battering ram intro followed by a tight-ass New Orleans groove, glued together with juicy Hammond organ and flame-grilled electric sitar! It wowed funk fanatics and B-boys everywhere, and quickly sold out thanks to some heavy airplay from the likes of James Addyman, Craig Charles, Norman Jay etc. Some legendarily messy DJ sets helped spread the gospel and Lee's been snapped up for live sets all over the place! Right now though, THE PEAS are back in the basement slaving over a hot portastudio, putting the finishing touches to their forthcoming LP, plus a new, super-heavy 45, "Psychedelic Cissy". Don't miss 'em, brothers an' sisters... Created with mySpace Profile Editor
