TO ALL OUR MYSPACE FRIENDS...THE NEW SONGS FROM ’THE RISING TIDE OF CONFORMITY’ ARE HERE AT LAST!! SO TURN IT UP LOUD, SIT BACK AND TAKE IN THE UNIQUE AND BEAUTIFULLY POWERFUL LORCA.LORCA are a band from the North-East coast of England and consist of five members, three of whom are brothers. The lads recently recovered a cassette recording with the three of them playing from 23 years ago. It wasn’t bad either...not for 8, 12 and 16 year olds! The youngest of the Robinson trio is Jam, the driving force behind the group. The songs were first conceived whilst Jam sat alone in his Newcastle flat in the early hours, tinkering with his acoustic guitar and singing soft enough to not upset the people upstairs. The one man show soon grew into a five-piece once he returned to the green pastures of Kingston-Upon-Hull.They originated along the lines of the well known dylan-esque, singer songwriter model. However it soon became clear that the existing material lent itself to a wider musical spectrum thus, LORCA as we know it came to exist.
| View | Add FavoriteDue to the influences within the band they have an eclectic mix well suited to the current resurgance of meaningful acoustic based music pioneered by artists like David Gray, James Blunt and Coldplay. But Jam’s influences tend to stray from the commercial arena of pop music, and lean heavily upon folk orientated artists such as B.Dylan, N.Young, T.Buckley, J.Martyn and R.Harper. Throw in some Jeff Buckley, Pearl Jam, Radiohead and Nick Cave then you begin to understand the nature and origins of LORCA compositions. The band has been together as LORCA for nearly two years but have played under different guises for over fifteen years with two of their members, Dave and Jam, forming and playing in local band BUFF MEABA for seven years . Visit www.V8music.com for more details. In that time they have extensively toured the UK. this is the first year they have felt confident in all areas of their music to be recognised as a band capable of competing in the commercial arena. They have a huge ammount of original material, quality musicianship, determination, tremendous dedication and as a live act they are truly a force to be reckoned with.Recently they have received local air play from BBC Radio Humberside, Radio Leeds, Radio York and Viking Radio. Whilst also being aired nationally on Radio 1 and Talk Sport. However, the UK isn’t the only country to play Lorca...they have also received lots of airplay all over the USA including Kansas City, Arizona, Seattle, New York, Philadelphia and California, and also in Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
