Misturinha started as a secret party at my house on summer 2004, where never more than 20 people exchange medicine, try doing some home-made dope and get stoned. That was then. But the concept of mixturing everything seemed me very fresh and a real good and unpredictable trip. I had a weekly radio program on a non-government organization (Viva Rio) called Efeito Coletivo (Collective Efx) where we only played brazilian home-made music. All independent, I called Fabio (from Gerador Zero), Peter Strauss and Maurice Yudanaz (from Ouvintes) and Leandra Lambert (from Voz del Fuego and Lingerie Underground) to help me out. They have some fantastic works in e-music and we gig together all the time. I was playing with my John Merrick Experience (a band that started in 94 and since 99 became a duo).
My name is Jenner (pleased to meet you) and I started as punk band bass player - back in 85, my band Reação QuÃmica (Chemical Reaction) became quite successful in my neighborhood. We split in 87 (because my gtr player had to move to other city). In January 88 I went to London I changed my direction after listenning to Bomb the Bass (from Tim Simenon) and found what I really would love to do - HOUSE MUSIC. I bought a TR626, a 4ch mixer, DX100 and a 4-track recorder ... that was heaven for me. In 91 I bought an Amiga500 and started sequencing in computer. And did my first live pa gig, in a local club. (ehhehe... when I remember, people just don´t understand that, and talked shit like "-wow, whatta fake ! that´s playback!".
91-92-93 My tapes became very well known with lots of friends and I called the attention of Tantão (the legendary creator of the post-punk band "Black Future").
93/94 - I was working at Groovie studio from Ronaldo Pereira (Supergroove) and met the guys from Planet Hemp. They ask me to produce the B-side of their first demo, so I did some samples, loops and sound-designinng. We use to to hang around so I in some spare time we create John Merrick Experience me (Jenner), Tantão, Marcelo D2 (Planet Hemp)and Formigão (Planet Hemp) - it sounds like trip hop (at that time I think the name TRIP HOP even exists)- I called STONED FUNK.
Planet Hemp band signed to Sony Records, 3 months later and became very successful nationwide. Nowadays, Formigão is playing with Spinninghead and Marcelo D2 has a very popular solo carreer.
96 - I had to move to other city (yes, at that time I was filthy rich working with my dad managing a ceramic floor industry) , so I met the Manguebeat scene in Recife (Mundo Livre S/A, Chico Science & Nação Zumbi, Otto, Mestre Ambrósio, Otto etc..) and gave a break to gigs.
99/2006 - Once a punk, always be ! I kicked my job and flew back to Rio, complete lo-cash and started again John Merrick Experience with Tantão. Lots of gigs in odd places, we kind of magnetic-calls real mad people at that time, most of them became a riot, the eletronic live scene in Rio was really very small at that time (and somehow til today). We played most of the time in different places in Lapa, for painting artists, junkies, musicians, poets... and at "those multimedia events" (for sure you may know what I mean). And done some really big gigs most of the time on the breaks between the bands in punk rock/hardcore events - HOW CAN IT BE? YOU ARE ELETRONIC ! Belive me - that really happened. Tantão is a legend, the junkie that people love to hate. And I, well, I´m cool with friends but love to hate people. So we together is very explosive. We split sometimes and then came back til today. I´ve done by myself lots of remixes under the name of John Merrick Experience to lots of friends and released in CD of some small label. I also sign as VOLUME 5, OGÃ ELETRÔNICO and XXX ! to know better my music www.jmx.com.brMy new work is under the name KLIENTSS
