The Count of Monte Cristo, Freedom and Necessity, The Name of the Rose, The Diamond Age, Housekeeping, Good Omens, The Archivist, Agyar, Nero Wolfe, Dear Enemy, A Distant Mirror, Gaudy Night, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Sunshine, Snow Crash, Sherlock Holmes, The Orientalist, anything by Steven Brust, Jules Verne or Nick Bantock, and the list goes on and on and on. My "to read" list is about 25 pages long and growing.

Heroes:

are sorely lacking these days. Jon Stewart is close, though.
