Ophelia's Frenzy

About Me

Ophelia's Frenzy can trace its misty origins to the mid 1980s, when a 10-year-old boy would use a series of modified tape recorders (a child's Fisher Price recorder could easily be tweaked into a rudimentary 4-track) to capture and manipulate sounds from around the house (the furnace igniting, the fridge turning on, a toilet flushing, etc.) in an effort to reproduce Space Sounds, an educational record from National Geographic that touted "real sounds from outer space returned by satellites and probes!"
Never satisfied with the results, this became a hobby that waxed and waned with the amount of free time the growing lad had. Twenty years later, the lad, now armed with a PC handmade for him by a friend (using "parts I had lying around") and running skads of sound-manipulation software under Linux, was able to come his closest yet to recreating the sounds of space. Along the way, the idea to add poems and mix several sonic outcomes together produced "songs," which are now released under the Ophelia's Frenzy moniker.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: oph.graveworm.com
Band Members: One man and a lot of Linux software, although Jeremy of the Rails lends a hand now and again.
Influences: The unholy three: Coil, Nurse With Wound, and Current 93. They at least showed me that experimental music could also be good.
Sounds Like: Hopefully no one, at least not specifically. In a genre sense, I'm sure there are "sounds like" references, but those aren't for me to make. So you tell me...

the Tandy 102 will never die

I use a 22-year-old computer to write my fiction. A Tandy 102, to be exact. And why do I use a laptop from 1985 with only 32K of memory? It's light, has full size keys, big ass letters on a screen tha...

So I checked on the stakes at my solar observatory yesterday, only to find two of them bent forward in the mud, no doubt due to the weight of the snow on them. It was easy enough to straighten them ba...
