Originally, Dollar Disobedience started as a means to carry a highly abridged version of the articles of impeachment for George W. Bush. You’re probably familiar with some of these: providing deceptive rationale for the war with Iraq, instituting an illegal wiretapping and spying operation, criminal neglect in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, etc. etc.
While we dollars are still as highly in favor of impeaching W as ever, we feel that there are other messages that need to get out there – messages that reach across party and social lines. The powers that be have orchestrated a brilliant marketing scheme, dividing the population into Red-Staters and Blue Staters and have provided some hot ideological issues for these "two factions" to quibble over. Divide and conquer. But the battle isn’t really against “Conservatives vs. Liberals†or “Christians vs. Heathens,†but rather the rich against the poor. This last struggle isn’t really talked about. It’s not as sexy as a religious battle in which the righteous are pitted against the evildoers. And yet, in 2003, the richest 1 percent of all Americans owned 38 percent of the wealth. We feel this is fact that is worthy of some serious consideration and discussion.
Some time ago, John Hagee, the evangelical minister of “Left Behind†fame expressed with great glee that what was happening between Israel and Lebennon was a sign that the end times are fast approaching and that Jesus will soon make an appearance. No doubt God will sweep down and save the blessed Americans first, right? And if you vote Republican, you get special box seats in Heaven, yeah? But if the Jesus who made an appearance 2000 years ago with good news for the poor did come down, what would he have to say about such a country of disproportionate wealth? . . . or attacking other countries, pre-emtively (or attacking other countries, period)? What would Jesus say about ministers like Pat Robertson who rake in millions and call for the executions of Latin American leaders who try to wrench their economies from U.S. domination? And finally, what would Jesus think about “good Americans,†who tell others how important it is for all Americans to follow their leader in a time of war, despite the fact that the leader’s actions go against everything Jesus taught?
And so we feel it is important to carry a message that truly points to inequalities that contribute to the neverending war on terrorism.
We can not depend on our elected "leaders" for change. There will be no revolution in Washington. Change must come about locally and from those with the least "power."

Some people have written in and expressed outrage over the below Jesus/Bush cartoon.
It should be stated that this cartoon IS NOT A SLAM AGAINST JESUS CHRIST but rather, is a satire that exposes Bush's hypocracy in claiming that Jesus is his favorite philosoher. Bush's actions go against the teachings of Christ. How would Jesus, who preached non-violence, have dealt with the post 9/11 world, had he been president? Are the Bush administration not wolves in sheeps clothing?
