About Me

The Gail R. Schoenbach FREED Foundation -For Recovery & the Elimination of Eating Disorders announces The FREED College Speaking Tour 2007-2008! Education and Prevention Coordinator at FREED, and more importantly, e.d. and body image disorder survivor, Kathleen MacDonald openly shares her story of recovery without glamorizing her struggles. She speaks realistically about eating and body image disorders in an empowering message of hope for recovery, and with an urgency for embracing recovery sooner rather than later. To learn more about the presentations, or to book FREED at your school, please contact: 571.292.2648 or via email: [email protected] and [email protected] FREED Foundation is is a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating eating disorders. Our Mission Is: To provide individuals the financial support needed for the treatment of eating disorders. To provide public awareness and educational resources about the serious detriment of eating disorders, through early detection of symptoms and causes. To advocate for the acknowledgement and acceptance of eating disorders as a serious and urgent disease This layout is from iloveyourspace.com

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to 'meet' anyone who is interested in finding freedom from disordered eating/body image issues, and those who are interested in bringing self-acceptance to this world.A favorite quote of mine: "You can threaten our children and we will still love you. You can burn down our houses and we will still love you. You can put us in jail and put your dogs on us and we will still love you. But be ye assured that we will wear you down by our love." --Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Music:

huge variety: Folk, Duran Duran, Lyle Lovett, John Denver, Ginny Owens, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Selah, Jennnifer Knapp, Chris Rice, Christmas music any time of year, Blues Stuff, John Prine, Keb Mo, Nickel Soundtracks to movies (love the variety), and occasionally I'll listen to some country. I like mixes that people make me. Huey Lewis and the News are my favorite :)

Movies:

In no particular order: Photographing Fairies, Chariots of Fire, Dead Poets Society, Serendipity, The Princess Bride, many Indie films, The Notebook, Patch Adams, Shrek, March of the Penguins, ...Just watched, "Why we Fight"...it is a MUST see.

Television:

Well, I must admit, I'm not the biggest tv watcher --though I try to watch things that will enlighten me to what's new in the world. I watch shows that I hear about from clients -the ones they say promote skinny/body image issues -like E! and Desperate Housewives. ~ When I want to veg I like to watch L&O SVU and the ELove channel --love stoy movies with NO commercials!! :) ~ I'm a tennis junkie and I also like to watch Cspan and Washington Today -anything with Tim Russert or Anderson Cooper. Oh, and I donate to PBS so I watch that, too :)

Books:

I'm on GoodReads

Heroes:

again, in no particular order: anyone trying to recover from an addiction, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, my dog, Jeanine, Daddy, all the folks I've met in the eating disorder community, God, Buddha, Jesus, Martin Luther King, Jr., Rep. Patrick Kennedy, Representative Jim Ramstad, Eleanor Roosevelt, Thich Nhat Hanh, Jimmy Carter, people who follow their heart, and me --I think we should all love ourselves enough to think we're a hero when we look in the mirror :).
