Outspokensilentgirl - Writer/Musician

About Me

Recording artist, session singer, writer, and performer Outspokensilentgirl has been a musician since the age of 5. Influenced by her grandfather saxophonist/flutist Joseph Thomas, she began singing at home and in church.

After three years of training at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and the Gladstone Atwell school where she performed as a vocalists and dancer on Public Education Television and radio locally, she then landed her first record deal at the age of 16 as a member of a vocal ensemble group Petite Teens. She recorded and performed with several other vocal quartets until receiving a callback for Luther Vandross's vocal quartet formed by his niece. Although promising, it was then that she decided that she wanted to step in the arena of writing, composing, and producing her own music.

Since then as a music artist, she has been recording for Capitol, Sony, Rawkus, Polygram, York, Zomba, Atlantic, and, MCA Records. In the 90's her promotional song for the Wendy Williams' "Top 8 at 8" show played in heavy rotation for a year straight.

She has recorded jingles and songs for Jamir Entertainment's Orginal Tress Productions and has appeared in or been featured in many music videos for hip hop artists such as Prince Paul, Kwame, Chubb Rock, and many other A-list artists.

Some of her literary writing credits include work for Awareness Newsmagazine, New Youth Connections Newsmagazine, and interviews for articles on Rockmond Dunbar and Jeff Haynes (Verve) for Essence Magazine.

She has performed at the Apollo, Harlem Week, The Black Expo in New York and in Philly, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Club Harambee and numerous other venues. She has studied Classically at The Brooklyn Music School and The Center for singing with Ridley Chauvin, received a scholarship to study at Broadway Dance Center, has trained with many repertoire companies such as Aduke's Harlem Children's Theatre Company, Shooting Star Performers with Darryl Syndor and Tracey Moore, The Washington Irving Dance Company, Brooklyn Talent Search Repertoire, and has been considered numerous times for RENT.
