The Technicians (Of The Sacred)

The Technicians have been disbanded for about 3 years now but for those who missed it here's the scoop: In the summer of 1992 one Exu Nazares met Buzz Cauldron while they were both working construction. They hit it off and decided to jam together. That session was recorded and mixed with loops to become " Trance", a low-fi, electro-acoustic journey into the unknown. The union was named " The Technicians of the Sacred " , after a Voudou information society out of Berkley California. Pretty soon Exu had a vision of a full band to play all kinds of fusion music, and The Technicians expanded, going through many line-up changes until 1995 saw a solid line-up. The first official release, " Respect the Unexpected" saw the Techs playing a ton of wicked shows with Exu Nazares on vox, Buzz Cauldron on guitar, Ritchie Caron on guitar, Lewis Forsythe on bass, Darwin Marsh on drums and guest Bunny on congas. The sound though hard to define was a strange mix of heavy prog-like funk rock with rapping of an entirely different lyrical genre. Besides playing alot of club shows, The Techs played quite a few alternative venues, often with hilarious results. Highlites include: Carlos and Bud's Tex Mex Restaurant, Blues Jam night at Bar None, outside the A&B Sound store at Surrey skytrain station, headlining at the Kooteney Music festival. The Techs were featured on the Music West cd " Chew on This ". 1998 saw a rebirth and cabinet shuffle within The Technicians due to the usual unforseen complications arriving. The line-up became; Exu Nazares - vox and loops, Poz - guitars, Buzz Cauldron - bass, Darwin Marsh - drums and guests, Annalisa Moriarty - keys, and Bunny, congas and hand percussion. The name was shortened to The Technicians and " Tent Of Miracles" the 2nd cd was recorded. "Tent Of Miracles" was recorded in Exu's house and the Hive, and sounded more laid back and trip-hopesque, low key in comparison to "respect..." but engagingly funky in a very salon fashion. Reflecting the mood and atmosphere of living in the Ashe' and moving through the Voudou Electric Underground, "Tent ..." poses the musical question, Where do we go next? 2001: Answer, Childhood Zen. Childhoodzen is a fresh new addition to The Technicians repetoire, hook laden with atmospherical guitars, pulsating bass, funkdriven drums and incisive thought provoking lyrics. Childhoodzen tells a story that moves through many domains in various states of light and shadow, perhaps still waiting for the unveiling.2001- Darwin leaves the fold for his own band "Kooper Kain" and so Enters Mark (Ludwig) S. to become The Technicians new drummer. A new recording was done with this line-up and everyone was excited. Then the engineer took off with the recordings(which we never got a copy of, or even heard the final mix), the band was understandably disappointed. We then re-recorded 3 of the songs , which turned out o.k but not nearly as good, and about a year later, Buzz left the band to join Kooper Kain, and The Technicians disbanded.:( Poz and Mark went on to find a new bass player for their new project, and Exu went on to form Les Barons.
