Big O

My name is Omar, I am 55. I was born and raised in Spanish Harlem on 110th st. It seemed like my entire family lived in one spot or another up and down 110th between Lexington and 3rd Ave. My uncles owned grocery stores on Park Ave, my aunts, cousins and grandmother all lived there. I grew up listening to the sounds of "El Barrio", out of windows you would hear people playing the LP's of Tito Rodriguez, Tito Puente, Pete Rodriguez, Daniel Santos, Bobby Capo, Rafael Hernandez, ( My Mother's favorite) Joe Cuba, Machito, Mongo Santamaria, Ismael Rivera and Rafael Cortijo. These are but a few that I remember listening to as I grew up. The sounds and taste of "El Barrio" are like no other. These were times I will never forget, they were the times that planted the seed of God and his love for us, for family life, for doing the right thing although you may fall you must get back up, it was the time I started to have my love and passion for music which I still have today. From El Barrio we moved to Puerto Rico after we returned to NY via The Bronx. I now live in Rockland County with my beautiful and very understanding wife of 25 years and my daughter, Jennifer and son, Omi jr. My Oldest daughter , Darian ,lives on her own.
