Way back near the end of the last millenium when septet meant seven and The Flavel Bambi was a small robust gas cooker found in many a bedsit,a group of unlikeminded individuals were about to put a stop to all that. After a trip to Egypt it seemed obvious to them to form a band consisting of six members and name it after the stylophone players cooking appliance....The Flavel Bambi Septet were formed.A mate off theirs wanted a band for a party in Twickenham and so they really did need a song or two.Again it seemed obvious to them to play the 20 minute instrumental intro to the Egyptian singer Warda's classic tune 'I will love you forever and ever'It went down so well that they were invited to play again and their repetoire grew incorporating oriental classics, Russian polkas,Nigerian brass band favourites and Klezmer tunes. They were the house band at an Edinburgh festival fringe cabaret show which was shortlisted for 'The worst of the fringe'. They were also regulars at Club Dog and residents at The Waterman's art centre.A superstitious bunch, they once turned down a gig because there were seven of them.Sometimes certain group members were not told about gigs as they played so badly out of tune.Instruments played included, guitar, electric saz, stylophone, casio sax,Drumatix, trombone, viola, violin, small drum kit and barking dogs. The group imploded after a coup d'etat by some proper musicians financed by The Kings Head, Acton High street. This mutinous posse tryed to steer the group away from it's oriental origins.Various members went on to play in Loop Guru,Trans Global Underground,The Transmitters,Temple of Sound,The Bollywood Brass band and Natacha Atlas....in fact her beloved miss occasionally performed and recorded with them. However,it's not totally out of the question that they may get back together again.... if the money was right and that they can find somebody that can fix their stylophone.
