Metropolitan Groove Authority is the brain child of musician, composer, arranger, producer, engineer, and recording artist Matthew D. Johnson better known as “Meiko” (pronounced Me Co.).Background At the age of nine, formal music training began. Trumpet or Sax? Yes. Unable to decide between the two lessons started on both. Eventually the trumpet won out. By age fourteen began playing gigs on trumpet with a local R&B/Funk band. While in high school taught him self to play guitar.While attending Rutgers University studied trumpet, jazz theory, and music history. During this time started working for Color Mix Sound and Lighting engineering live shows for artists including: The Trammps, Lonnie Liston Smith, Noel Pointer, Charles Erland, The Weather Girls, and Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes.Picking up the bass in 1995, and immediately began playing for The Rose of Sharon Community Church in Plainfield, NJ until moving to Atlanta in 1998. Jam sessions helped to hone the bass skills on a wide variety of musical styles. Since then he has performed with Phace Oracle, Soul, Eric Thomas, The Will Culbreath Project, Amanda Ray and Sol Konfiscation. Accompanied spoken word artists Focus and Roc on feature performances around Atlanta.In 2000 Metropolitan Groove Authority a digital recording and production facility was established. Services include pre-production, tracking, mixing, arranging, editing, special effects, performance mixes and mastering. Clients include: Focus, Malachi, Brodie, T.C., II True, Dianne Cameron (2005 Kora Award Nominee), Heart of the Hood, Original Black Kings, and The DirectorzComing Soon: Play,n For KeepsIncludes (The contemporary jazz symphony in C minor) “Playing for Keeps” consisting of “Prelude for Keeps” “Playing For Keeps” - Main Theme “Love Is (A Four Letter Word)” - Romantic Theme “Gone Too Soon” - RepriseFeatured vocal performances from Princess on “Starlight”, Toi with “Could This Be Love” and Everything on “Don’t Worry” Randy Skinner (Muted Trumpet), Dashill “SunNova” Smith (Trumpet), Ben Irving (Drums) and Ed Elam (Flute) add their musical talents to this collection of grooves.
