About Me

A multi-instrumental lyricist who combines classic hip-hop, jazz, soul, funk, and various other forms of ethnic music to create spontaneous compositions of high quality....Inspired and influenced by legendary masters such as John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Brown, and Thelonious Monk, trumpeter Dashill Smith has become a staple in Atlanta's music scene; touted as one of the top musicians amongst his peers. Possessing a powerful and bold sound on his horn, he is very comfortable with performing in multiple genres such as traditional jazz, be-bop, hard-bop, soul, funk, hip-hop,and blues among others. Performing professionally for over ten years, he has shared stages with Jazz greats such as Roy Hargrove, David Sanchez, Russell Gunn, Steve Coleman, Greg Osby, and Steve Turre.., just to name a few. Also a hip-hop artist, vocalist/Lyricist Dashill possesses an amazing stage presence that has captivated many an audience. As an M.C. he is known for his beyond excellent free-styling ability and his boundless energy! In Atlanta he is a regular at some of Atlanta's best music venues such as, the Five spot, Churchill Grounds, The Apache Cafe.., Sugar Hill, and The Harlem Bar. He is an Alumni of the world renowned Theatrical outfit, Freddie Hendricks youth Ensemble of Atlanta. He is a co-leader of the critically acclaimed hip-hop band "Phace Oricalz", which already has a large devote following in Atlanta. He is the lead vocalist and horn section leader of The Common Ground Collective; an electrifying Afro-beat/Soul band also out of Atlanta. Dashill has performed in many cities around the U.S. and has graced stages in The Netherlands, London, Belgium, and Ghana. In Spring of 2008 he plans on releasing a solo jazz-hip-hop influenced album tentatively entitled "Bass-Lines, Fist-Picks, And Pickett Signs"; an ode to music and spirit of the decade in which he was born...
