I'm a West Philly girl who is a descendant of the Olaoye Clan of Nupe,Ile Ifa and Osun State, Nigeria,West Africa. My female lineage(not confirmed) runs through Ethiopia, Bahia, Brazil and Turtle Island. I am a Yoruba Iyalosha Sekere Percussionist, Performing Artist, Playwright and Dance/Theatre Instructor. Sharing hope, light and positive information is my uttermost passion through the Medium of the ARTS! A Daughter of two waters(Yemanya/Oshun)croning gracifully.Brain child of "100 Sekeres" and " Egbe Ekuijo Workshops" and Head of Ile Egbe Obinrin, Yeye Olori Oriyomi is best known and loved by all her students as MAMA YEYE. The Atlanta cultural community call her the "SEKERE WOMAN OF ATLANTA." She was raised and inspired by the variety of ethnic sounds, tastes and rhythms from the African Diaspora. She delights in teaching the ARTS because its an opportunity to create a positive change everywhere. She uplifts the Yoruba code of "IWAPELE" which means good character.
Her most recent credits are Georgia, Texas,Tennessee, Arkansas,Alabama, Kansas, North Carolina, Washington State, Oregon, Florida State and International Conferences as a guest artist for several years.
Choreographer for the 7 Stages World premiere of " Maria Kizito", "Colored Girls" at the Georgia College and State University. Active with Seven Stages'Youth Creates PEACE SUMMER program and Atlanta Workshop Players Theatre Camp. Mama Yeye is continuing her success with the production of "OJO/RAIN DOES NOT FALL ON ONE ROOF ALONE".She was a featured guest at the Ayoluwa African Dance Theatre's "WAH WAH" Conference at the Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah,Georgia and performed with Giwayen Mata's "Tribute to the Mothers" TODAY....
Mama Yeye is teaching African theatre in high schools, conferences and will continue with residencies,classes and workshops throughout the WORLD."Somebody almost walked off wit all my stuff.."
