Fans of fast and heavy music beware!
Catchfire took Birmingham, Alabama by storm in 1999 beginning from the remains of Caption (Birmingham's local metal/hardcore outfit that dominated the scene for years) and Honeymaid (Birmingham stoner rock). The music was easily described as a mix of progressive death metal and grindcore. Popularity was quickly gained locally, and a five-song demo was produced shortly after being formed. The band enjoyed two years of pleasing audiences in both the all-ages hardcore/underground scene, and the more mainstream metal scene. Their bone-crushing music was contagious and unstoppable.
In the fall of 2001, guitarist Chad Hubbard (of Caption fame) left the band to pursue personal endeavors. Guitarist James McCracken of Denver, Colorado's Angels Never Answer had recently moved back to Birmingham, and was picked up to fill the space left in Chad's absence. The music has since matured in respects to becoming more melodic, but the material still retains the original "growl" that Catchfire's music was so well liked for. A two-song demo was produced in late-2003, and has reviewed very well. They have continued to appeal to fans of all genres of metal, grindcore, and hardcore, and enjoy an awesome reception to fresh ears most everywhere they play.
In 2005, Catchfire was saddened to see the departure of James McCracken due to some positive career decisions (best of luck James!), but decided to battle on as a four piece, developing an even more unique style and sound as time passed.
Catchfire is currently playing shows throughout the Southeast and neighboring regions whenever possible. A new recording will be underway shortly, and they will be looking for label support or other support to promote their music and touring. Regardless of what happens with labels, the band is prepared to press on independently to spread their awesome musical creations. Watch for Catchfire to come through your town or a town near you (or book them)... you will not be disappointed!
