About Me

THANKS for visiting my page ...and my website is even better : p I lead the projects you see here and others, and i also play keyboards and/or piano with Meshell Ndegeocello, Chilean vocalist Claudia Acuña, rapper/beatboxer Baba Isreal, 2x Grammy nominated composer/drummer Dafnis Prieto, trumpeter Avishai Cohen (not to be confused with the bassist of the same name, with whom i used to play and recorded on his first 3 records), Anat Cohen (Avishai's sister, the tenor sax player and clarinetist, recently making great strides on the scene), bassist Omer Avital, cellist/trombonist Dana Leong, Colombian harpist Edmar Casteñeda, saxophonist/composer Yosvany Terry Cabrera, Brazilian saxophonist/flutist Jorge Continentino, and Venezulan guitarist/singer/songwriter Juancho Herrera. How'd i get to where i am (where am i? donno...)? my father plays piano and my mom's a music and dance lover, so music was always accessible in my household. i started out only a few years old playing piano by ear -- my favorite pieces were the theme from Star Wars and my own interpretation of Beethoven's 5th. i eventually took some formal lessons, but after a while became bored when i wasn't allowed to improvise. amid brief affairs with the trombone, alto and tenor saxophones, electric guitar and double bass, i never left the piano, and found jazz and blues, learning directly from recordings of Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, B.B. King, John Coltrane, and whatever else i could get my hands on. Late high school years at Music And Art in NYC, meeting many of my current musical colleagues, eventually i found who was to become my guru for the next few years, the esteemed Barry Harris, who helped me immeasurably. I've had other teachers at different times and they all helped me in different ways, but two really stand out for me, and the 2nd one is the great Chris Anderson who had profound influence on many pianists including Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans. Living in NYC i think it was only a matter of time before i starting playing "Latin" music, while trying to dig deeper into the history and roots of jazz led me to realize that they stem originally from Africa, mixing with different influences to create all the different African-based music we know today (which is pretty much most everything you probably listen to west of europe). I love music and feel blessed to play with musicians i respect and love, and to also be able to have and express my own ideas and vision.OK, so i also did some studio work plus arranging and musical direction for Lauryn Hill, recorded on bravebird by Amel Larrieux (though none of the musicians on the album received credits); toured with one of my absolute favorite drummers in history Roy Haynes, performed with and arranged for Arturo O'Farrill's Grammy Award-winning Jazz at Lincoln Center Afro-Latin Orchestra, and played at different points with Chick Corea (he came down to smalls and sat in with my big band and we played 4-hand piano - he helped get our first record released on the Stretch record label), Junior Cook, Elvin Jones, Clarence "C" Sharpe, Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Paquito D’Rivera, Jon Hendricks, James Moody, Christian McBride, Graciella (of the famous Machito Orchestra), the sensational Colombian group Curupira, Mark Turner, Lou Donaldson, Dakota Staton, Randy Brecker, Arnie Lawrence, Jimmy Lovelace, Jimmy Cobb, The Henry Mancini Orchestra, Reggie Washington, Lionel Loueke, Michal Cohen, Gene Lake, Christian McBride, Clark Gayton, Vernel Fournier, and others.I'm currently touring and recording with a group i started, NOW VS NOW -- which is starting to take a life of it's own: myspace.com/nowvsnow .....as well as continuing on with the Jason Lindner Big Band. Thanks for stopping by! * P E A C E*********************************************************** *********************JASON LINDNER'S DISCOGRAPHY: 2008: Giulia Valle - Enchanted House Fresh Sound Records Duv - Urban Artistic Subphonik Music Group2007: Jason Lindner Big Band - Live at the Jazz Gallery Anzic Records Me'shell Ndegeocello - The World Has Made Me The Man of My Dreams Decca Talk To Me - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Atlantic/Wea Omer Avital - Arrival Fresh Sound Records Dana Leong - Anthems of Life Tatao Sound Avishai Cohen - After The Big Rain Anzic Records Pharaoh's Daughter - Haran Oy!Hoo Records Waverly Seven - Yo Bobby!
