About Me

Aaliyah was born on January 16, 1979. Aaliyahs full name is Aaliyah Dana Haughton and her A.K.A is Baby Girl. Aaliyah was born in Brooklyn New York and her parents are named Michael and Diane Haughton. At her age of 5 she moved to Detroit and her mother gave up her work to raise Aaliyah and her brother Rashad. Aaliyahs mother realized that Aaliyah had a talented vocie at the age of 6. Aaliyah went to a private Catholic school and performed in all the school plays. At the ages of 8 and 9 Aaliyah would sing songs with her beautiful voice around Michigan at weddings. At 11 Aaliyah went to Star Search where she performed on Television. The song she sang was "My funny Valentine" but she lost and like every mother does...Aaliyahs mother gave her words of advice and told her not to give up. At the time her uncle Barry Hankerson was married to Gladys Knight nad he took Aaliyah to perofrm at many different places. Some years later Aaliyahs uncle was managing R. Kelly at the time. Aaliyah impressed R. Kelly with her beautiful voice at the young age of 13. Aaliyahs uncle soon signed his 13 year old niece to his lable Blackground Enterprises. R. Kelly wrote some songs that ended up being on her first album entitled "Age Aint Nothin But A Number". When Aaliyah released her single entiled "Back and Forth" she was only 15 years old and it was a huge hit! Aaliyahs album was released in 1994 which became the ..1 album at the time which also released the hit single "At Your Best (You are Love). The album went to platinum but stopped selling as much once the rumors about R. Kelly and Aaliyah were spread. Aaliyah denies being married to R. Kelly but noone is sure. Aaliyah took a break for a while until the rumors died out and she began to work on another new album in the studio. Aaliyah left R. Kelly behind to show that she was growing as an artist and she could do it on her own. Aaliyahs new album entitled "One In A Million" was released in 1996. She made a huge break through with the single entiled "One In A Million". Aaliyah soon came together with producers Missy Elliott and Timbaland. They worked on the song "If Your Girl Only Knew" which was another hit song. Aaliyah got numerous nominations for award shows and another platinum cd from songs like "4 Page Letter", "Hot Like Fire" and other hot songs! In 1998 Aaliyah performed "Journey to the Past" at the Academy awards from the Disneys Anastasia soundtrack. Aaliyah soon after that also recorded songs like "Are You That Somebody" for another soundtrack for Doctor Dolittle which was also a hit along with the hot video she shot for it. Aaliyah soon grew interest into acting. She got acting coaches and began to practice and audition for movie parts. Aaliyah was noticed so quickly with her great acting talents that she was going to start in movies like Salome. In 1999 Aaliyah got a major role for a movie entitled "Romeo Must Die". Aaliyah worked along side with Jet Li to produce this great movie (one of my perosnal favorites!) Aaliyah again produced songs for the Romeo Must Die soundtrack which included songs like "Try Again" and "Are You Feelin Me" which were all big hits as usual. The movie got about 58 million dollars at the box office when it was released. Aaliyah was also going to start in movie like Sparkle, Matrix II and Matrix III, Queen of the Damned, and Some Kind of Blue. In the year 2000 Aaliyah began shooting for Queen of the Damned. At the same time aaliyah returned to the studio and began working on her self entitled album "Aaliyah". She released the single "We Need A Resolution" which showed a dark side of Aaliyah (another of my perosnal favorites!) which included another hot video to go along with it. July 17th she finally released her album which included hit singles like "Rock Da Boat", and "More Than A Woman". August 25th rolled around and Aaliyah as always was going to work on another hot video just for her fans. Aaliyah flew to the Bahamas to start filming the "Rock Da Boat" video so it could have a beach theme to go along with the song. Aaliyah finished shooting the great video and went to go take off on that day because she wanted to spend time with her boyfriend and family before she went back to advertise her Aaliyah album again. The private planes were too over loaded and a few minutes after take off the plane went down and crashed leaving Gina Smith, Keith Wallace, Douglas Kratz, Scott Gallin, Eric Forman, Anthony Dobb, Christopher Maldonado, and Aaliyah killed from the accident. This became a major tragic day in the history of music. I was perosnal heart broken when i found out over the phone that Aaliyah had passed away...I turned on the television and saw the story on the news...My heart pounded and i felt so mad and sad about Aaliyah passing away even though i never got to personally meet her. Aaliyahs public ceremony was held on August 31st in New York City. Aaliyahs movie role in Queen of the Damned still didnt have its audio track finished yet so her brother Rashad finished up what was needed and the movie was released in February 22, 2002 being ..1 at the box office its opening week. I personally will never forget Aaliyah. I miss her so much and i always will and i know that we have to have her continue to live on in spirit and in music so dont ever forget about her....keep a tribute for Aaliyah always in your hearts! This is the purpose of this website. *In Loving Memory of Aaliyah and the others on that plane that were killed on August 25th, 2001...this day will never be forgotten! ..
