Spaceships are cool were formed by Rob Maddison in the summer of 2005 & are based in the city of Nottingham UK.
Spaceships are cool use toy phones, melodicas, cheesey synths, glockenspiels and miniature drumkits to make their music.
Rob spent many days recording & performing as a drummer & programmer in bands in Nottingham & Newcastle upon tyne. It was whilst drawing doodles & day-dreaming on planes and tour buses, between playing gigs on a volcano in iceland, a converted barn in Sweden & at a bizzare show in a ballroom in Caeser's palace las vegas, that Rob decided it was time to start his own band & transform these adventures into music....the result is 'spaceships are cool'.
Inspired by spending too much time watching films like Barbarella, Forbidden planet, dark star & 2001; Spaceships are cool combine all manner of electronic beat n bleep machines with acoustic guitars and chilled out vocal layers to create a wonderland of organic lo-fi fun! .
2007 has been a real busy year for spaceships, with a ton of live shows, a whole double LP's worth of new material recorded in the studio, and spaceships on the airwaves in the form of BBC RADIO 1 plays on the Huw Stephens show (both during the summer & in November).Spaceships are cool have worked on x2 collaboration projects during 2007, these are 'THE TOKYO EP' collaboration project with DJ/PRODUCER MR BIRD. & x3 tracks co-written with Tokyo based laptop artist TATATAMOTO (which received BBC RADIO 1 airplay during summer 2007). Rob will be venturing over to TOKYO in march 2008 to play 2 long awaited gigs with TATATAMOTO.

Studio recordings will be released on a split EP vinyl 7" entitled 'going places 2' over in Sweden sometime early in 2008, further info @goingplaces 7" here on myspace. Spaceships are cool will also feature on 'I can count music' electronica/pop compilation cd available from march 2007.

2007 has seen spaceships play all manner of live shows, from Fashion shows @Nottingham Arena, to tiny basement bars in London's SOHO. The live set is ever evolving; currently featuring the amazing electric piano and vocoder skills of Ben James, and everything Mr Rob YUNIOSHI playing everything from musical saw to stylophones!
2008 will see the 1st spaceships are EP on sale at all live shows, as well as a ltd edition 7" vinyl single! all artwork is by New Giraffe city, with sleeves hand screen printed onto 100% recycled card by I Dress Myself.
Spaceships on the road in 2008.......... We will be down in London playing Lee Gorton's DOWN THE RED BRICKS in February, then supporting Icelandic electro band BLOODGROUP on a few dates of their UK tour in early march. Then its off to TOKYO!!!!! from march 22nd.
April 2008 is ICELAND CALLING weekend for spaceships are cool & Yunioshi, as we venture to Reykjavik to play more shows with Bloodgroup in their hometown.
