WE ROCK HARD

About Me

Yunioshi are made of four people based in Nottingham. An eclectic bunch of influences feed a sound which is always upbeat, always trying to steal a peek up the short skirt of life.
Selected by BBC Introducing as one of the hottest emerging talents from the UK in 2008.

"Think Beck dry humping the Flaming Lips with the robot from Lost In Space looking on and filming all the action for his own personal collection. The perfect pop band. They're as catchy as hell." Leftlion Magazine
"A brightly, highly, super cool funk breakbeat three piece from Nottingham, with a sound that is so spot on it would appear this is more american sounding than a british thing! If you imagine Lemonjelly, Massive Attack and Del La Soul forming a supergroup, this would be the outcome!" Fierce Panda
"The band blend Beck-style flagrant rhythms and otherworldly vocals in a DIY style, creating something danceable, updeat and louder than an American in a sun-visor shop." Metro
"The exact place where found sounds and breakbeats merge with left of centre indie pop; all lilting Beck-style rhythms, hummable hooks and spoken word vocals in the style of Mr Ian Dury." Tunetribe.com (Mymo: Single of the week)
"Great innit" Jo Whiley BBC Radio One (Mymo single release)
"A cracking tune" Stephen Merchant BBC6 Music (Yunioshirocks single)

Yunioshi 2007: What we got up to!
In our first year we've managed to get two tracks from our first EP1 picked up for ad syncs (Kia and Vauxhall cars), released our first single, played Nottingham Arena as well as numerous oter fantastic venues around the country, and even picked up our fourth member Hakushi Yunioshi San - our brand spanking new live drummer. Thanks for all your support this year. Thanks to all who came along to see us and thanks for all of the kind words. We really love playing and making cakes for you!

Yunioshi 2008: Lets Go!
Hakushi has returned following 7 months in spinal rehab so we now have live drums back on board! While he was away though we did a few things without him. Our premier Maida Vale session recorded in April as part of BBC Introducing. This was quickly followed by gigging in Reykjaviks famous Organ venue. We then played the Introducing stage at the Middle of Nowhere festival. Did we mention that EP3 is on the way too?

Sounds Like: "A brightly, highly, super cool funk breakbeat three piece from Nottingham, with a sound that is so spot on it would appear this is more american sounding than a british thing, but all in all a fresh approach! If you imagine Lemonjelly, Massive Attack and Del La Soul forming a supergroup, this would be the outcome!"
Fierce Panda

Yunioshi has a sound like Beck, Simple Kid, Tom Vek, Fonda 500 and the Super Furry Animals all regressed back to small children and hanging out at the zoo laughing at monkeys throwing their own poo at the people watching. An eclectic mix of found breakbeat samples from the back of dusty cupboards cut out by scissors with round blades and glued together by hooky guitars, old childrens keyboards and whatever odd instruments ebay has on offer that week.
