About Me

I write novels about teenagers who are much cooler than I ever was in high school. And... probably cooler than I am now. (I've heard rumors that at some point after high school, the concept of "cool" loses all meaning. I'm still waiting.)

HACKING HARVARD is now in stores:
It's the ultimate challenge: breaking into the Ivy League.
The Hack: To get one deadbeat, fully unqualified slacker into the most prestigious school in the country.
The Crew: Eric Roth--the good guy, the voice of reason.
Max Kim--the player who made the bet in the first place.
Schwarz--the kid genius already on the inside...of Harvard, that is.
Lex--the little miss perfect wannabe valedictorian who insists on getting in the game.
The Plan: Use only the most undetectable schemes and techno-brilliant skills. Don't break the Hacker's Code. Don't get distracted. Don't get caught. Take down someone who deserves it.
The Stakes: A lot higher than they think.
They've got the players, the plot, and soon--the prize.
It's go time.

My Interests

They can call it interests, but I know they really mean hobbies. Of which I have none. So...stuff I like: TV (of both the quality and trash varieties), Italian food, blizzards, kayaks, chocolate cupcakes, gumball machines, Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, really old books, Cadbury Cream Eggs (only once a year), Trivial Pursuit.

I'd like to meet:

Readers, writers, cupcake bakers (especially if you'll bake some for me), someone who can explain to me what the point of myspace is, and anyone who hated gym, vice principals, pep rallies, that weird cafeteria smell, and pretty much everything else about junior high.

Music:

new pornographers, tegan and sara, jem, dar williams, postal service, rem, the format, counting crows, top 40 circa 1995

Movies:

So-called cheesy movies I feel no shame in adoring: Dead Poets Society, The Princess Bride, Can't Hardly Wait, Bring It On, Dead Man on Campus, Mallrats, Sneakers, Reality Bites, Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, Real Genius, Goonies
Marginally more respectable movies I also adore: The Anniversary Party, The Last Days of Disco, Fight Club, Celebration, Wonder Boys
I'm also the only person in the world who loved Vanilla Sky.

Television:

Current: Lost, Alias, House, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, Everwood, the Apprentice
RIP: Buffy, Angel, Murphy Brown, 90210, Chicago Hope, Twin Peaks, Larry Sanders, Seinfeld

Books:

YA:
Uglies, Pretties, and Specials, Scott Westerfeld
The House of the Scorpion, Nancy Farmer
Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card
A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L'Engle

Other:
The World According to Garp, John Irving
The Moor's Last Sigh, Salman Rushdie
The Making of the Atomic Bomb, Richard Rhodes
It, Stephen King
Catch 22, Joseph Heller
Pretty much everything by Kurt Vonnegut

Heroes:

What's your deadly sin? -- from the author of the Seven Deadly Sins series!
ENVYSome people want what they can't have -- but you're determined to have everything you want. Even if it belongs to somebody else. Most people have more than they deserve, and you don't have enough. So why shouldn't you even the scales?

best of the best, or at least the rest

I am very fond of year-end countdowns. (Was anyone else extremely disturbed by how old Adam Duritz looked on VH1's Top 100 Songs of the 90s?) But the whole counting part seems like a lot of work. So h...
