Trummor & Orgel is a brotherhood, musically of drums and organ but also in the actual sense of the word as Anders Ljunggren and Staffan Ljunggren are real life brothers. Having grown up together their dynamic interplay onstage seems obvious as a manifestation of their brotherhood. Thus it is surprising to note that their joint musical venture, in reality is very young.
Trummor & Orgel was formed out of pop psych combo Second Glance in 2003 when Anders took up playing the organ. Anders, with his musical background in classical music and a vivid love for The Beatles was for the first time teamed musically with Staffan, an explosive drummer involved in several band projects in different directions, but always with an experimental edge. They found a common ground in psychedelia and jazz and decided to form a duo as a side project to Second Glance. Their immediate influence was the groundbreaking work of Swedish 60’s psychedelic jazz duo Hansson & Karlsson. They aptly labeled their work as “Trummor & Orgel-projektet†(The Drums & Organ Project) a name which came to stick with them as they saw their work move from a side project into their main focus.

In 2005 they recorded two full-length promo CDs, during a time when their music evolved considerably. With every new track, rehearsal and gig their music came to bloom, manifesting petals in all the colours of a musical rainbow including whirling psychedelia, stormy jazz, and whispering Swedish folk music, boasting diverse influences like Brian Auger, My Bloody Valentine and Count Basie while accentuating a uniqueness and specific style of their own.
Thanks to a dedicated fan of Trummor & Orgel’s one of these CDs reached the hands and ears of Fredrik Ekander at Cosmos Records. Impressed with the potential in these home made recordings Ekander booked them into the studio and less than two months later Trummor & Orgel’s first studio album was completed – an album that was subsequently released by fashionable label NittyGritty in April of 2006. The record was well received by the critics and also brought the attention of Ebbot Lundberg of near legendary Union Carbide Production and The Soundtrack of Our Lives fame. Trummor & Orgel came to join Soundtrack of Our Lives on the Swedish leg of their Scandinavian 2006 tour. From there on Trummor & Orgel went on gigging all over the country, most notably performing at the Stockholm Cultural Festival in the summer of 2006 but also adding to their experience performing in Norway.
All the while work continued in the studio reaching new musical heights, exploring their sound and broadening their musical palette and also collaborating with Ebbot Lundberg who came to label himself “stalker and fan†of the duo. The work culminated in the new album Reflections from a watery world. At the time of writing this the album is being shipped out to the shops and Trummor & Orgel are preparing themselves for a three week appearance at the renowned Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy, a summer celebration of culture that since 1958 has gathered half a million visitors annually.
