About Me

Andreas and Martin began making music together about six years ago. Alexis came in to the picture three years ago and Johan about two years ago. So the Works has been around for a while, but with other members and totally different sounds. Johan's amazing groove opened up the doors to a new world, and as the members listened to a lot of British bands like the Small Faces and Pretty Things, soon The Works started drifting towards the sound you can hear today. After a while the Works started playing with Mattias Gustavsson (bassist of Dungen) and all of a sudden they all got in to a more psychedelic approach to music. About that time the band decided that it was time to do exactly what they wanted and just have fun, to make music without any thoughts about what record companies or anyone else want or think. It was then the band came into contact with Stefan Kéry. Stefan, who had been running the record company Subliminal Sounds for some years, became a close friend, and already at the first meeting it was agreed that the band should release an album. The first phase of recording began in July 2004, and took place at Studio Konst och Ramar in Stockholm. There the band spent two weeks playing from morning to night, and another week mixing. The time in the studio resulted in 11 songs, out of which five ended up on the actual album. On the final day of the recordings Mattias left to study in Viet Nam for half a year. The band however, more inspired than ever, continued playing with Reine Fiske (guitarist of Dungen) on bass instead. During the same period Andreas played the bass in Dungen. The Works were at their best and lots of new material emerged. The new songs seemed to be a nice addition to the album, but the limits of the budget had already been reached. The band then decided to record some songs themselves. These recording sessions were scattered on different locations, with different people but with magical results every time. Parts were recorded by and with Fredrik Björling (drummer of Dungen), two complete songs were made in Martin's living room, some of the songs got the honor to be mixed at Easedrop Music, but BC, the band's rehearsal studio/ hang-out, has meant the most for the sound of the Works. The band released their debut album April 4 2005 and right now the Works are busy continuing their musical journey. .. width="425" height="350" ..
