What is the NORML Podcast and How do I listen?
"Podcasting" is a term that has come to define any audio or video program individually distributed on the internet. An "internet radio station" plays a variety of shows on a 24 hour schedule. Podcasts are released for individuals to consume them on-demand.
Listeners can receive the programs 3 ways
- Through Apple computer's iTunes Music Store. This is where 85% of all podcasts are served through as a directory portal. The program can be played on a home computer or laptop directly through the FREE iTunes program. Or the consumer may choose to move the program from iTunes onto their iPod for mobile listening.
- MP3 Download. Listeners can download the individual programs from NORML's website. The file can then be played on their computer or moved to an audio CD, digital music player or even a cell phone for later listening
- FlashPlayer. NORML's web design team has created a custom Flash program to allow the NORML podcasts to play automatically through a webpage. For an example please visit www.normlaudiostash.com Other website designers and users of popular sites such as MySpace.com can easily acquire the free code form NORML's website and place the Flash player into their own website or blog. High Times Magazine uses the Flash Player for the Audio Stash on their MySpace page along with dozens of other websites and blogs.
Why are NORML's podcasts important?
NORMLs podcasts have ranked in the Top 15 podcasts in their category on iTunes since October 2005. NORML's podcasts reside in the Government & Organizations category on iTunes and share the top rankings with Sen. Hillary Clinton, Gov. Tim Pawley, President Bush, The Pentagon, The Navy, The Air Force, Sundance Channel's The Hill and the National Park Service. This represents one of the largest online media successes for the NORML Foundation and has consistently kept the NORML message in the eyes and ears of the podcast consumers of America. The importance of Podcasting as a political gauge and as a modern media format is growing exponentially. It has been suggested that podcasts will outrank blogs and bloggers in importance by the 2008 election.
NORML enjoys unique success in it's podcasts due to the brand of the Foundation and the core message. While NORML's podcasts are certainly not the only marijuana related podcasts online, they are the most popular. NORML's podcasts are committed to having truthful marijuana information be the centerpiece of the content.
