The sound of my siren in the car is always music to my ears! The sound of my wife dictating the phonetical alphabet ,sting and the police and....
POLICE TECHNO.
SOUND
Its combines police sirens reversed through a basic analogue tape setup with added flange (for fun) subtly compressed in an anechoic chamber , sped up to around 200 to 250 beats per minute over an underlying bed of Detroit techno / Bristol drum and bass / poor- mans-lollipop-gabba. The outcome if it could look like a haircut would be your standard Mike Reid pork chops and Cap combo.
HISTORY
It originated in Amsterdam by the late, world renowned police man come disc jockey, DJ Taser Blade in the mid to late 1980s. It is not very well known in the UK as it is mainly played at Police Auction after parties and is sometimes used as a torture to sweat out suspects.
Icons of the genre include:
MC Pig (UK MC wears full 1940s police outfit, incredible!)
DJ Cuff Lock (Italian, insists on using vintage modified gramophones and combines standard stylus’ with handcuff components)
Panda Vision (Dutch producers Grensil and Ovenhart, responsible for much of what you hear today, legend has it they melt down old truncheons to make their vinyl)
DJ Detective aka Howie ‘The Fuzz’ Hemlock (the mastermind behind Cop Fuck Records)
Exhibit F (Youngest police DJ on the scene today. Always wears his trademark forensic suit. Scratches like a bitch!)
DJ GBH- (The rebel of all police DJ’s, likes to slow it down and mix in Ambulance sirens and Fire engine sirens. Love him or Hate him he’s totally unique!)
Bad Lieutentant, Maniac Cop, Beverley Hills Cop 2, The Rookie, Robocop, Dirty Harry, Cop Land, Cops and Robbers 4, The Cop Out, Police Cops, S2000: Cop School, Police Academy (The entire epic), Caught By the Fuzz, Love Actually.
