J. Martin aka plAj $nip (pronounced "Play J")
Born in Mobile, Alabama on Dec. 31, 1980.
One of my dreams has been to perform and produce music that came straight from the heart and that has meaning; to make a difference. I always had a love for art and tried to find my place in music, listening to many styles. While just a kid, my best friend and I made gospel rap tapes. Later in my teens, I got into guitar and wanted to put together a band; yet more recently discovering piano. I had also always been into recording. At age 17, I returned to rap, writing poetry about life and how I felt about world issues. I've co-produced (w/LNZ Hall) two of my own albums "got stories to tell" and "Volume II". I have also produced a gospel album for Ethel Lane & a classical album for Wemberly Ponder.
The true essence of rapping is not what you hear on the radio everyday. I believe just as guitar is an element of rock n roll for example, so is rapping a musical element. Just as the guitar can be used in any style of music, so can the element of rapping. And thats one thing I seek to do, putting my lyrics with music that inspires me.
I'm always on the look-out for new musicians to work with; So I can produce the type of sound I've had in my head for a while...Something perhaps that's never been done before. I have the vision for what I want to do. Since I have truly found God, I know that my message will be somewhat sharpened and redirected, though I always spoke reverently of God in my poetry. My new founded zeal for God will most definitely shine through in my music in the future. I always speak the truth in my music of real live events, straight from life. I've done some crazy things and had some crazy times. I look back into my past and it's like another life. I don't make up any stories for shock value or just to sell records. Even if I didn't sell one record, I could rest knowing in my heart that I said what I wanted to say. I make the music that I do to take a burden off my chest, the real raw truth of how I feel. It's really a release for me.
I feel that the whole time that i've been writing and producing music, i've been growing....& learning. I feel like I've come so far; yet so far to go. I have a company, $nip Enterprises, in which I am currently building up. I'm working on some new tracks too and hope to have a new one up on this site soon.
I have a lot of interests, so check out my other profiles : All of which can be found on my company profile "$nip Enterprises".
