The Scaredy Cats

At least we ain’t chicken.

About Me

It was the beginning of 2006, and a gaggle of dormant musicians were very bored indeed. Not content with just working 3-4 day weeks, studying disciplines that have no practical use and partying like there was no tomorrow, they decided to destroy all the free time and personal relationships they had…

Thus The Scaredy Cats were born, who play homage to original Jamaican ska, British 2-tone, and American 3rd wave as well as taking lessons from a variety of punk and rock bands. The result is a distinct (honest!) hard rocking ska with a no-nonsense 3 piece brass section and dual vocal styles – the gruff, boozed up cries of Mr Happy mixed with the gentle melodies of Daisy. The lyrics address such contentious issues as break-ups, wanting to take a holiday, music festivals being shit, bad dreams and absent friends.

Since the current line-up has been completed, South East London has partied like never before at packed out shows in dingy pubs and clubs where the beer and nitrous oxide flows ‘freely’ (£3 a pint and £1 a hit respectively).

Timeout website say: "the Amersham Arms was letting the side down prior to its reinvention in October. It’s not surprising that the venue was struggling beforehand; bands like The Lovespuds and The Scaredy Cats just don’t encourage mass pilgrimages anywhere, least of all to a neighbourhood that has worse transport links than the isle of Foula. And no disrespect to veteran promoters The Catapult Club but their standard indie bills were hardly in keeping with an area that publishes Islamic hip hop magazine The Platform, is home to a bustling arts scene and can lay claim, should it want to endorse cereal-box necklaces, as the birthplace of nu-rave." So The Scaredy Cats are not nu-rave, that's kind of a good review...

we got played on Kooba Radio podcast. check it: http://www.koobaradio.co.uk/shows/jonny_yeah_show/2008_01_26 .html
