Ever thought what a combination of Blondie, The Mission and Within Temptation should sound like? Well, check out Sengirs debut album Guilty Water. Beautiful female vocals, ethereal keyboards and driving guitar rhythms are combined perfectly to heavy emotional songs with a hard edge and a mysterious atmosphere.
After some unfruitful experiments in other bands, Kris Scheerlinck and Jurgen Cobbaut decided, at the end of 1995, to found Sengir. A death and doom-metalband at the start, their music evolved to a sort of melodic gothic-rock/metal. This evolution caused many changes in the line-up.
Sengirs debut album was recorded and produced by Xavier Carion, the former master riffmeister of Belgiums most heavy and successful Channel Zero. Thanks to Xaviers years of experience at the top of the international metal-scene, Sengir managed to create a new masterpiece in dark metalrock. Although the band was contacted by more than a handful of international labels, they decided to sign a worldwide deal with the ambitious Buzzville Records (home of other successful Belgian recording artists, such as The SemiTones and Cowboys & Aliens,). In November of 2004, Sengir and Kris Scheerlinck decided to part ways. After countless auditions, Frederik De Dobbeleer became Sengir's new guitarplayer.
In November 2005 Sengir finished recording the follow up for their critically acclaimed debut album Guilty Water. January, 23th 2006 will be the release date of Sign Of Devotion, their new album that, without any doubt, will bring the band to the next musical level. The band recorded the album, together with producer Tony De Block at the Midas Studios in Lokeren (Belgium). Sign Of Devotion will feature 11 tracks that are way more guitar-driven, yet very melodic. Svencho (of Aborted fame) was responsible for the album artwork.
Everyone who thought the Netherlands was the only country responsible for gothic rock, in combination with female vocals and a commercial approach, is completely wrong. This Belgian band provides you with all the ingredients for the next chapter in the gothic rock novel.
