Welcome to Southend Pub, also known as Virginia Beach Seafood Market. Some of the locals affectionately refer to it as"The Rusty Hook". History of the building dates back to the late 60's and was once a laundrymat, before it transformed into one of the longest standing seafood markets at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach. The Galloway's started this tradition (John Sr. & John Jr.) and have passed the keys on to the Osteen family so they can carry it on through the next decade. Some remodeling and technical upgrades were made but the casual cool old school beach atmosphere has not been tampered with. Not even the classic recipe book has been changed, and with the addition of new favorites, it keeps Southend Pub a regular locals destination. In 2006 The New York Times restaurant review of Southend Pub placed it in the top 5 east coast vacation spots to dine for seafood, especially the crabs. Entertainment is another aspect of Southend Pub, with 9 TV's and 2 big screens (projecting the NFL sports package, surfing, college sports, and even a fishing show) there's never a bad seat in the house. The DJ booth is usually manned by Larry May, the collection of classic & obscure flavors of music he conducts is a breath of fresh air compared to the corporate radio fodder thats shovelled down the publics throat. That is also the rule when it comes to the live entertainment, no cover bands here! Since 2001 the Pub has hosted a variety of original music artists touring the east coast, not to mention the great local bands also. The Pub is cozy, upclose and personal, with a regular crowd of original music fans that support it, always makes for a good time.
