In the dictionary, there is no definition of the word ‘FUNK’, which would suggest it is a free word, a word with no boundaries or labels, a word which can take on it’s own form in which ever way the user desires, but most of all, a word completely individual and like no other, which Is why it is one half of the name that is given to the musical alter ego of Julian Dent, and can also be used to describe the music he produces and the tunes he chooses to play……FUNKZATI.As an avid funk fan, Jules’s sets meet the needs of any funky club goer, providing the soundtrack to what usually ends up being a memorable night of dance floor shaking, groovy hip twisting action, and is now gaining himself a reputation as one of the Isle of Wight’s most sought after funky DJ’s,as well as performing as part of the established DJ group ‘Slipdisc’ and being headhunted to perform with Funkatronic on new years eve in the islands biggest nightclub.Starting as a young hopeful, Jules quickly picked up momentum and gained himself residencies in some of the islands most well known clubs and soon after was chosen from a selection of (cassette tapes) to play at London’s ‘Hanover Grand’…this, kick starting his distinctive sounding DJ career that he has today. When asked to describe why he loves and plays the music he chooses to play, ‘Funkzati’s response was “ The music I play has to touch me, I would never play something just to fill up the set. Funk is in my soul and I feel that there is a part of me in every tune that I can identify with, so when I play out, I feel that I am giving a part of myself to the crowd, which is what I thrive off of and what makes me happyâ€.
So maybe this is why ‘FUNKZATI’ is fast becoming associated with the well established music scene on the island, and why a night out with the FUNK, will leave you body popping till dawn!
