PEACE! We are scared of terrorists too (from all backgrounds) but who really appears to be the terro

About Me

Muslims in Hip Hop began on November 17th, 2002, with a yahoo group which now has close to 300 members. Anyone who is interested in learning more about Islam as well as what Muslim Hip Hoppers are up to can request to join at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MuslimsInHipHop.
Upon forming, our group actively protested the infamous One World magazine cover featuring Lil Kim (she was wearing a bikini looking one piece and had what appeared to be an some type of Islamic-ly styled scarf/veil on her head.) Inside the magazine, under the photographer's notes on the shoot, they were allegedly discussing the politically charged nature of the look and Lil Kim allegedly entered and said "F*$% Afghanistan" let's do this. (paraphrased). So we protested. Muslims never received an apology from Lil Kim or Russell Simmons, the owner of the magazine but we generated a lot of media attention on the issue. I'd like to meet:

As salaamu alaikum! This space is EXCLUSIVELY FOR MUSLIMS

If it is not evident on your profile (and it does not have to be) please be sure to confirm that you are indeed Muslim when writing as we are getting a lot of requests, Alhumdulilah!

It is not our intention to make anyone who is not Muslim feel excluded or rejected. Please sign up as a subscriber to our blog, you can learn the most about Islam from us there. Everyone is welcome to join the Muslims in Hip Hop yahoo group. You are welcome to make everyone of our friends your friends too. We showcase Muslim artists, activists, leaders, power movers, etc. so we need to be able to find them in our list, the choice of exclusivity is purely a practical one.

Like all Muslims, we are a very diverse group but we do have a set of morals that are not up for debate. We do encourage Brothers and Sisters to be more conscious of what appears on their page, including comment posts from others. We love all of our Brothers and Sisters in Islam but no matter what their individual struggles, we will not be signing up friends who have sexual content, lewd images, offensive language etc. on their pages. To avoid this ourselves, we have set our own account settings to allow us to approve anything before it is posted on our comments or blog sections. (Account Settings - Privacy Settings - Approve Comments Before Posting).

God willing, this can be a space for Muslims to seek each other out but also to show the general public that many of their favorite artists are actually Muslim, set a good example of what Muslims are about, and inspire others to learn more about Islam.

We look forward to hearing from you! PEACE!

Subscribe to the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) newsletter at http://cair.com/ . They denounce terrorism all of the time but rarely does it make the media and then Muslims get criticized for not denouncing terrorism... CAIR also fights for the rights of Muslims. They fight Islamophobia. They encourage interfaith dialogue. The CAIR newsletter is very important reading plus they offer the hadith or Qu'ranic verse of the day! Subscribe Now!
