My Interests

Music:

Band Members: PCS & Ne'er-do-well :TOM ROBINSON, BBC 6 MUSIC: “ ‘Country Girls’ from Bow Mods. What a great record!” (Jagged Little Pill : Single Of The Week)JOHN KENNEDY, XFM X-POSURE: “An intriguing sound and more plays to come.”MARK RUSSELL and ROBERT SANDALL, RESONANCE FM, WHERE’S THE SKILL IN THAT?: “Electro-gothic without the gloom and the lame riffs… I really do love (I Will Dry Your Eyes), it's very catchy.”RICHARD FOSTER, INCENDIARY MAGAZINE: “Acerbic and witty social comment –served on a dish of beautifully observed pop sensibility is their trade mark…Highly recommended.”East London’s Bow Mods (Bow rhymes with ‘oh’) released the 'Country Girls' EP in June on their own Drunken Records label and watched it hit the playlists of BBC 6Music, XFM X-posure, BBC Late Junction and Resonance FM amongst others.Having spent 2006 and early 2007 honing their live set into a tragicomic adrenaline rush of angular pop moments, the EP showcases the group’s stylistic range, from the anthemic loping groove of the title track, to the chiming new wave sound of ‘This Feeling’, taking in the Kinks-y front room swagger of ‘I Will Dry Your Eyes’, and the bass-heavy ‘I Feel Emotional’, written after a blistering Pop Levi set last year.Bow Mods are PCS (vocals) and Ne’er-do-well (everything else). Their first song written together was an Underworld-esque drunken rant of dancefloor high-jinks. Nightlife continues to feature regularly in their lyrics, as does the East End, home to the band’s Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Studio. Country Girls is a case in point – a scenic amble up the Roman Road.Bow Mods’ music emerges in a rough form from Ne’er-do-well’s one-string guitar pickings, quickly supplemented by the rich baritone of PCS. The group’s live band then overdub instrumental parts.2007 continues to be a busy year for Bow Mods with Ne'er-Do-Well doing final tweaks on the album in preparation for an autumn release, and PCS gearing up (and oiling up) for a major press push and a UK tour.PCS has a long and diverse performance history, from touring the UK as front man with the best forgotten psych-rockers Skiff; receiving raves for his Petruchio in ‘Taming of the Shrew’; modelling jeans for Wrangler on cinema screens; out-acting Prunella Scales in ‘An Ideal Husband’; to appearing as a dancing undertaker in an Oasis video. Equally at home spitting out cock rock or crooning lush ballads, his onstage psychic imbalance and outrageous concert wear have to be seen to be believed.Ne’er-do-well has until recently been producing experimental music programmes at BBC Radio 3. He is also a founder member of the notorious Langham Research Centre, a musique concrete group who make music using vintage tape machines, performing John Cage’s Fontana Mix at Tate Modern in May 2006.
