DUSTSUCKER - Diabolo Domination
DUSTSUCKER are a phenomenon. Not because they still live up to their reputation as underdogs, resisting every kind of musical trend and steadfastly delivering music which can't be definitely placed in any particular pigeonhole. No, DUSTSUCKER is all about the essential elements which make the difference between an average band and a great band. To DUSTSUCKER these essential elements mean talent, passion, a love for the music and not outfit, scenes and trends. 2008 sees a new album from the 15 year old band in the stores: 'Diabolo Domination', an album which, without wanting to exaggerate, is one of the best Heavy Metal Rock'n'Roll CDs to ever have come out of the German metal world. There are numerous reasons for such a statement: On the one hand, the band has combined great power riffs, unforgettable vocals and super melodies and on the other, the band rocks as though their life depended on it. And on every track, the popular DUSTSUCKER sound is enhanced by influences from such renowned bands as MOTÖRHEAD, ROSE TATTOO, TANK, FIST, HELLACOPTERS, VARDIS and NASHVILLE PUSSY. Positive metal power and the balled fist force of Rock'n'Roll as well as gigantic power rock riffs go hand in hand on 'Diabolo Domination'. They took the most biting elements from known, traditional styles and the result was absolutely first class, asskicking hymns. 'Land Of The King', 'Right Time' and 'Escape The Fire', to name just three of the twelve new tracks, are a passionate statement in support of timeless, dirty power rock.
DUSTSUCKER was formed in 1993 by two friends, Max Count Farmer (guitar. vocals) and Marco Piermattei (drums). Their first album was released in late summer 1994 on their own label, Zylinder Records. The music press of the world rejoiced, which gave the band yet more encouragement. Their second output, 'Another One Sucks The Dust' appeared in 1996, an album which they produced together with Ricky van Helden (Attack) in the Iceland Studios. At the same time they established a reputation for being an excellent live band and played a series of shows with well-known bands EXPLOITED, WARPATH and DOA. With their roots in the underground DUSTSUCKER has stayed musically true to itself during all the years of the band's existence. The 1999 release 'King Size Rock'n'Roll' EP underlined that fact very clearly. Over time however, DUSTSUCKER also had to cope with the usual line-up changes, but they have always come out on top and in 2001 they appeared with a female bass player, seen as a novelty in the male-dominated genre of rock'n'roll. The album they released as a result was 'Hookers Planet' and the tremendous pleasure that greeted it in the press strengthened the band's reputation. Two years later the lads went into the studio with the cult producer and former THUMB singer, Claus Grabke and recorded the legendary 3-Track EP, 'Backslider'. This EP and the ensuing press reactions helped the band land a record deal with the Hamburg Label Go Nuts Music (sister label of the legendary Limb Music Products). The EP was also the reason that they were asked to contribute a song on the "Geki-Teki Metal compilation" released in Japan by that country's cult Radio DJ "Captain Wada".
The first record for Go Nuts Music was recorded in 2004. Again under the auspices of Claub Grabke in the Upstairs Studios, 'Rock'n'Roll Sniper' was released in Autumn 2004. This, DUSTSUCKER's first album released internationally, received extremely positive reviews and words and descriptions such as "dirty Punk'n'Roll", "Pure Rock'n'Roll high octane fuel", "Great Rock'n'Roll entertainment!" and "Kick Ass from all the barrels " did the media rounds. 'Rock'n'Roll Sniper' also took the band on their first extended tour. In the following year, 2005 too, the lads were more often on the road than at home, and spent some of their time writing material for their next album. However, the band carrousel began turning again in 2005 and it was difficult to maintain a constant line-up. But despite that, at the start of 2006 the song material was given its final touches and the new album, entitled "Jack Knife Rendezvous" was recorded, mixed and mastered in May 2006 in the Prophecy und Music Factory Studios under the direction of R.D Liapakis (MYSTIC PROPHECY, JACK STARR, WINTER'S VERGE, DAVID CHASTAIN, etc...) and Christian Schmid. 'Jack Knife Rendezvous' was overall compacter and harder than its predecessor and the twelve songs sparked with energy. Rockers such as "Wasted Times", the grooving "Dead On Wheels" oozed high octane fuel and spit the dust in your eyes. Once again the band had proved their reputation as a reliable, well-oiled rock machine. 2007 was a little quieter for the band despite shows at home and abroad, and DUSTSUCKER concentrated once again on solving line-up problems. The core of the band, Max and Marco, had already begun writing new material which reflected all the passion and over 20 years of experience in the music business.
Now, the young year of 2008 sees a new DUSTSUCKER album at the starting gate, ready to energetically kick the backsides of all genuine Heavy Metal Rock'n' Rollers. 'Diabolo Domination' unites all the street experience and the underdog feelings and lets them out through the loudspeakers. Songs like 'Lost And Forgotten', 'Live In Sin', 'Dig Your Own Grave' or the incredible and unfortgettable 'Let The Good Times Roll' are mirrors of these rockers' souls. The band, which now includes H.U.Vanya Drost (guitar), doesn't simply base its work on wild riff attacks and a thunderous style, but the songs retain a certain memorability factor and certainly invite fans to look up the lyrics in order to yell along with them. Songs like 'Kill On The First Date' and the driving 'Loaded and Ready' dump all trends in the bin where they belong and prove that timeless rock music need never sound stale. The new CD combines the most important elements of this music style: melody, memorability, toughness and biting riff attacks. The album, recorded In Frankfurt's Black Solaris Studios under the direction of REBELLION guitarist Uwe Lulis (ex-GRAVE DIGGER), comes up trumps again with its voluminous production. As a side note, Lulis played all the bass parts on the album. Also notable is the dynamic solo played by Jeff Waters (ANNIHILATOR) on 'Land Of The King'. With this album DUSTSUCKER have again tightened the bolts and raised their music to the next higher level. The sheer power and released energy of 'Diabolo Domination' will tear your boots off. It's pute kick ass sound with the power of a hydraulic ram!
