About Me

"In less than 20 minutes, my life was changed forever... When Hurricane Katrina hit, my family and I were trapped in an attic for 3 days in temperatures of over 100 degrees. It was a very humbling experience. After being rescued from the rooftop by helicopter, my family and I had to literally fight through a mob of scared and angry people in order to get onto a bus to take us to shelter. It was like being in hell. On top of everything, we lost one of my very close relatives at our hotel in Houston - her heart was unable to handle the stress of the ordeal. All of my possessions were gone. I had to start a new life. I came to DC to stay with my oldest brother, and I forced myself to move on. More than ever I realized just how powerful music was as a means of healing and a way of release. Plus, Katrina had really driven the point home to me that you never know what's gonna happen. So now I feel like this: Screw waiting for people to believe in me; I'm making my dreams happen NOW!"

Influences: I've been greatly influenced by vocalists who are just such solid technical singers that they are totally free to to express their emotions with their instrument. These singers include Donny Hathaway, Eva Cassidy, Mariah Carey(early Mariah), Peabo Bryson, Regine Velasquez, Brian Mcknight, Celine Dion, Maria Callas, Lea Salonga and of course the late Luther Vandross. All of these singers have greatly influenced my approach to singing in significant ways.
