Hey Guys and GalsLet me apoligize for the price, the company tacked on $.45 a songFormed in Kernersville, North Carolina (United States) in 2000, Down on Luck has been dedicated to bringing good music back to the world. Pulling influences from Social Distortion, The Misfits and Tiger Army, to Elvis, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly, an obvious heartfelt punk/rockabilly sound was born. Will Sapp, lead guitar and lead vocals, Ian Davis, rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Nick Waldrop, bass and backing vocals, and Zach Landon, drums and backing vocals, are the four forces driving this band. Fresh out of high school Down on Luck ranges from 18 to 19 years of age.
Founding members Will Sapp and Ian Davis, friends since elementary school, both started playing guitar at the same time and taught each other how to play. This has made an unstoppable chemistry between the two. After a year Will and Ian set out in their search for the rest of their band. Bassist Kyle Laster and drummer Drew Fulk came along, the band blew up in their local scene. Two years later differences split the band, Will and Ian had recruited members that weren’t after the same musical goals. This is when Drummer, Zach Landon, and Bassist, Nick Waldrop, stepped in. Knowing the sound that Down on Luck had created they were more than happy to join. Together they have made all of their own art designs, screen printed their own shirts, written all original music, funded their album recording/production and managed their selves through thick and thin.
Summer of 2004 Down on Luck set out on a self set up east coast tour, what a disaster. Venues that were supposed to promote and bring in well known local bands, failed. Averaging around 15 people a show, the tour was not as productive as they had wished. At the beginning of 2005, despite Zach being hospitalized due to a burst appendix, The Guys released their fist CD titled “ Going Back. “ Zach recorded the day after his surgery. Immediately they began promoting and playing local shows. In the first week they managed to sell enough CD‘s to pay back the loan they had taken out to fund the recording and duplication. Getting in touch with bands they like was a tough task but they got through to a few. Bassist from alkaline trio, Dan Andriano, Got a chance to listen to the CD and thought it rocked, “That is an amazing first CD, I think “Away From This Place†is going to be your money song.†Dan wrote. Face to Face lead man, Trevor Keith, fresh from the disbandment of Face to Face wrote “I like the sound guys, you definitely have talent.†when they sent him a copy of the album.
Currently they have been writing new material and saving for the new recordings. They are nearly ready to record the new album and reveal a new slightly darker Down on Luck. Singing Their sorrows of love, lost love, and discontent, the new album is full of the best songs they have written. They are set to go into the studio in august 2007. They are not slowing down, now with the new album nearly written they are gearing up for the new line of non-stop rock shows. So put on your rock socks, here they come.
