About Me
THE HISTORY LESSON pays tribute to the MINUTEMEN, and especially to D. Boon. we play as many MINUTEMEN songs as we can remember - damn there are so many. the MINUTEMEN were so free-thinking and independent (in the truest sense of the word) and could easily move in and out of any style of music: punk, country, rock, funk, jazz, folk. their song structures were fucked up, strange, and unique - unlike anything heard before...or since really. their lyrics were abstract, self-referential, and/or political. easily one of the most versatile and underrated bands/artists/icons ever. you are missed d.
mike and joe started playing together in the summer of 2005, and lee joined them in february of 2006. in the spirit of honesty and humility embodied by the MINUTEMEN, the songs posted on this page are typically recorded live at our various practices and shows, resulting (so far) in:
secret sessions - february 25, 2006
turko sessions - march 25, 2006
powerfirm sessions - june 24, 2006
live on KZSU 90.1 FM - september 20, 2006
live at mad dog in the fog - november 18, 2006
cobweb sessions - february 17, 2007
curly fries frenzy sessions - march 24, 2007
live at the jury room - may 12, 2007
double gun overbite shrug sessions - july 21, 2007
live at the 418 project - august 11, 2007
live at thee parkside - september 1, 2007
live at caffe pergolesi - september 28, 2007
live at the blue lagoon - october 10, 2007
the MINUTEMEN's inspiration is difficult to describe, and even more difficult to capture, but here are our meager attempts to share the music of d. boon, mike watt, and george hurley.
