About Me

Hi, I’m Mc Cubz, welcome to my music myspace page. I’m a 19 year old rapper and am from South Manchester, NW England, UK. Initially, I began writing poetry and diary-form literature in 2003 and began rapping properly in 2006. Initially I rapped over hip hop/rap beats of Snoop Dogg and Eminem. Since moving to Bristol temporarily I have began rapping over jungle/drum and base, as well as rnb, soul and reggae beats.I first began performing in late 2006, firstly at open mics and later progressed to performing in local student bars and later open music lounges and night clubs, as well as at booked events, including celebration events and balls. I usually get pretty shaky before I perform but when the beat drops I go into my own little world. I’ve learnt a lot from performing live and looking back at videos that friends/fans have taken, and have always tried to ‘go for it’ as much as I can and share what I am rapping about with the crowds. In early 2007 they also played my tune called Final Love Song on the local student radio, which was pretty exciting.I began performing solo with just a beat and a mic, which went down pretty well, and after an open mic I met my dj, DJ Len, whom I now perform regularly with over hip hop/rap, reggae, soul, house, breaks, garage/grime and jungle/drum and base. I also perform with a band, The Gentleman’s Club, which began as a jazz band, and began also playing funky, hiphop, live dnb, soul and other genres. It consists of 7 members, each extremely talented in their own right, with a great singer, Helena Dickie! We also perform live regularly at a variety of venue types in the Bristol area. Their myspace page can be found in my top friends!I currently record myself in my bedroom on pretty basic equipment, but for now I’m just concentrating on writing, practising and performing live, in preparation of my album in a number of years and for the sole enjoyment of it all.I have always been interested in music, and played a Russian instrument for seven years called the balalaika, which is kind of like a three-stringed guitar lol. I never used to read books as a kid but as I grew older and studied English literature at a-level I gained an understanding of literature which aided my physical organising of thoughts on paper, which with my life experiences formed the basis of many of the lyrics of my songs. As a kid I listened to soul, rnb and pop music and from around 11 began listening to rap music, mainly artists like Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Eminem and Ice Cube, my first albums being Doggystyle, the Doggfather, The Real Slim Shady LP and The Chronic volumes 1 and 2. As I began to ‘find-what-I-liked’ in urban music Tupac and Nas became my favourite artists. I also enjoy listening to J5, M.O.P. Cypress Hill and many others, including Urban music of UK artists such as Kano, ghetto and Wiley, as well as local mcs in my home city of Manchester, some of which are found in my ‘top friends’. I listen to every genre of music and my favourite artists (and songs) are Bob Marley (Is This Love, No Woman No Cry, Jammin, Waiting In Vain), Ben E King (Spanish Harlem), Percy Sledge (When A Man Loves A Woman) and Ziggy Marley (Love Is My Religion), with many more.My other interests are mainly sporting activities. I train for the javelin at Trafford Athletics Club during the summer months and regularly train with weights for Olypmic-style weightlifting and powerlifting, and regularly run or play football (with my little bro andy), for enjoyment and stress-relief purposes.I give a special thanks to hybrid, a Manchester rapper, for the encouragement when I first began rapping and continued support!I hope you enjoy my page, please feel free to comment or message me for any reason and I will get back to you soon. Thank You! xxxxxMySpace Widgets
