About Me

Thirty-something Dad, Husband and wage-earner who can't quite believe that he's actually grown up. It's a bit disconcerting really. Harrumph. ;-)I play guitar in a local covers band - 'The Push' - click our link below and check us out. I'm also learning the drums as it's something I've always wanted to do. I'm enjoying it very much - the neighbours less so.

My Interests

Playing the guitar and drums (neither very well), songwriting (similarly . . .), skiing (ok, spotting a trend . . .)

I'd like to meet:

Peter Green.

Music:

Currently re-listening to all my stuff with a drummer's ear. Discovering some new stuff through the drumming I'm liking (eg Stanton Moore, Taylor Hawkins, Cindy Blackman) Right now I still have a deep love of the Blues in its many forms, and have been enjoying discovering great songwriters new and old. Peter Green, BB King, T-Bone Walker, Buddy Guy, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Fleetwood Mac (both eras!), Kate Rusby, Suzanne Vega, Polly Paulusma, Jackson Browne, Al Green, and then there's all the stuff you listen to as a teenager that never leaves you: Queen, AC:DC, Van Halen, , and pretty much all the 80s pop I taped off of the Radio 1 Chart Show every week.

Movies:

My favourite movie ever is 'Birdy' (Matthew Modine and Nicholas Cage, not that that's particularly why I liked it). We used to go almost weekly, obviously now hardly at all. I'm a bit selfish on this one - I only like seeing 'big' films at the cinema now - chick slush/Bekki-movies get left until it comes around on telly ;-)

Television:

My favourite TV is a bit of a guilty secret (ok, it WAS a secret) - I'm addicted to EastEnders and still get overexcited about SciFi the same as when I was 10. So stargate, Battlestar Galactica - geeky stuff like that. And Newsnight. Oh dear . . .

Books:

I used to read voraciously, but since Callum arrived much less so. That said, I still slavishly buy Raymond E. Feist's novels and am working my way through Peter F. Hamilton's back catalogue. I enjoy standard escapism 'trash' thrillers (reading for me is an escape from the occasional stresses of everyday life) Summer holiday usually means half a dozen of that years best-sellers get ploughed through - nothing too intellectual. At any given time though I usually have something non-fiction on the go too (whatever the latest obsession is hehe)

Heroes:

Daley Thompson (seriously!) I was hugely in to Athletics as a teenager (and did pretty well ;-) ) and read his biography - a great example of who huge talent is nothing without dedication, strength of character, and the support of good people.
