Third World American

Another 'Useful Idiot', at your service

About Me

My original podcast was Third World American, where my goal was to travel the USA for a year, seeking the reality of poverty, the wealth gap, and debtors imprisonment in the United States, and to create a documentary film based upon what I learned from such a broad and diverse experience.

But like Cindy Sheehan said when she quit, "Americans care more about who's going to win American Idol, then they do about who will be killed in Iraq today." Very, very few people showed any interest in learning about, or eliminating, involuntary poverty in America.

And what do you know? Based on my research and seven years of experience with this project, that kind of apathy is exactly the reason why we have so much poverty and suffering in America. Go figure.

So now I do another podcast, instead. It's called Paul's Academy , and it seeks to turn on people's brains (in both senses!).

My Interests

Writing, music, movies, nature, animals, photography, drumming/guitar/MIDI, podcasting, filmmaking, philosophy, politics, cultures, ecology, astronomy, geography, and travel. Preserving gorillas, dolphins, seals, whales and other great species. Preserving the Earth and other great planets.

I'd like to meet:

Extraordinary people with moral courage and passion, who are truly alive. People who give a damn, and who prove it with action. Vagabonds and Bohemians who understand that without freedom, you are already dead. People who appreciate the natural world, and who try to preserve the habitat that sustains their own life. People who know what real beauty is, and are awestruck by it. People who are part of the solution, not part of the problem. People who eschew the profit-motivated corporate media, and voraciously seek out knowledge from reliable sources instead. People who earn my respect, rather than expecting or demanding it.

People--especially religious people--who truly appreciate what Carl Sagan was saying when he described the life of Johannes Kepler: "When he found that his long-cherished beliefs did not agree with the most precise observations, he accepted the uncomfortable facts. He preferred the hard truth to his dearest illusions."
