Johnny was 16 years old when he recorded his self-titled solo debut in 1983. Johnny had a mature voice of a singer three times his age. Johnny had a voice that had adult women in a sigh, despite his age. His vocals as well as his God given talents, made Johnny Gill one of the biggest R&B male artist of the 90's New Jack. A native of Washington D.C, Johnny is a preacher's kid. He had a chance to show off those vocals at the age of five years old, when he performed at his father's church as part of his family gospel group Wings Of Faith. In 1983, long time friend Stacy Lattisaw entered into Johnny's life. In 1984, Johnny and Stacy recorded "Perfect Combination" which gave Johnny a high profile. By the time Johnny was asked to join New Edition, he had already landed a solo contract with Motown Records. Johnny accepted the invitation to join New Edition. His debut with New Edition was 1988's Heartbreak. Johnny's mature vocals combined with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' hip-hop rhythms helped give the group a mature sound. Johnny had solos on several cuts titled "Boys to Men"and "Can you Stand The Rain". Johnny Gill's solo career exploded in the 1990s, In 1990, Johnny had established his third solo album. Johnny's songs were edgy yet smooth. "Rub You The Right Way and the love song of all times "My,My,My"Definitely showed that Johnny had gone from a boy to a man. In 1993, Johnny released his "Provocative" album. This album had a mixture of romance and rhythm, and featured vocal backgrounds from R&B group Mint Condition. Three years later, in 1996, Johnny reunited with New Edition on "Home Again". In the fall of 1996, NE embarked on a nationwide tour. In 1997, Johnny joined up with Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat to create a supergroup "LSG", This project went platinum and yield a Top 5 single. Johnny has also lent his talents to the world of acting, starring in three national stage plays "Listen To Your Woman" "A Fool For Love" and "Will A Real Man Please Stand Up". Currently Johnny is working on upcoming projects with New Edition. No matter what Johnny is doing he will definitely have you saying "My, My, My."...
