ABOUT THE BANDS
Switchblade has quickly become one of Sydneys most popular metal bands. Formed in 2001, the band became a five piece in mid-2004 before supporting Machine Head and releasing their debut album The End of All Once Known in early 2005. Since then the band has worked solidly on the live front and built a big local following.
LORD is the continuation of Dungeon , a band that ended in 2005 after 16 years and three top-selling albums. Dungeon toured Australia and Europe as guests of Megadeth and supported a long string of acts including Destruction, Edguy, Opeth, Nightwish, Malmsteen, Nevermore and Mayhem, among others. LORD continues the Dungeon legacy and is already working on a debut album for late 2006.
Imminent Psychosis is a band from Adelaide that plays beer-fuelled death thrash. The band has made a solid name for itself in its home town and in 2004 released their self-titled debut album.
Malignant Monster was formed in Perth in 2003 by ex-Centaur and Pathogen vocalist Cain Cressal and former Malice Unity guitarist Jay Curley. The duo recorded a demo in 2004 that showcased some brutal and aggressive thrash. After adding another former Centaur member, the group completed a full-length album in mid-2005. Foul Play met with instant approval from the Perth metal scene and Malignant Monster is now also a live entity.
Enforce is one of Perth's longest-serving metal bands. While line-up changes have been fairly common, Guy Bell and Rob Hartley have kept the band together for ten years and two albums. In 2006 the rest of Australia will get to check Enforce out when they tour nationally with Cryptopsy.
From Mandurah, south of Perth, Plague has carved out a name for themselves as a killer live band. They also have two albums to their credit and a string of supports to some of Australia's best-known metal and rock acts.
The McDougall Brothers are Dan, owner of A&D Printing t-shirts and the creator of the original Dimebag tribute tee that sold around the world in early 2005, and Ando, bass player with Melbourne's Dreadnaught . Dan provides the voice and guitar and Ando everything else on their take on 'War Nerve' from The Great Southern Trend Kill.
Aeturnus Dominion come from the NSW Central Coast, north of Sydney with members drawn from an array of other acts from the same area. Together the band has well over a decade of experience and the last three years have seen Aeturnus Dominion featuring prominently on the Sydney live metal circuit.
Black Steel is one of Perth's most seasoned acts. Featuring the former bass player of thrash legends Allegiance and veteran guitarist Jamie Page (Black Alice, Trilogy), Black Steel has supported Deep Purple and Judas Priest and released two albums through the SteelHeart label as well as appearing at the Big Day Out in 2004.
Combining Alice Cooper-style theatrics with a classic sleaze delivery, The Deadthings typify over-the-top and is currently arguably Melbourne's most explosive rock act - literally! Fortunately, the band also has the musical chops to back it up, releasing a debut album in 2005. Extensive touring is to follow in 2006.
Synthetic Breed is a cyber-death metal band from Melbourne, which in only a very short time has become a band to watch in that city's vibrant scene. After releasing an EP, Synthetic Breed supported Arch Enemy in November 2005 and were hand-picked to play at the With Full Force Festival in Germany in 2006.
Transcending Mortality is a Sydney-based band formed in 2003 as a solo act by former Baraka guitarist Jonathan Talan. Since then TM has taken shape and in less than two years of gigging become one of Sydney's most upwardly-mobile metal bands, currently recording a debut album for release later in 2006.
Featuring members drawn from a bunch of short-lived Sydney thrash bands including Descend, Apolyom and Abortus, MurderWorld is a new band that has already unleashed a debut album in early 2006. Their contribution to the album is an original song, written by guitarist Shayne Querruel on December 10, 2004.
