About Me

Grammy Award winning saxophonist Joe Sublett started his musical career as a part of the Austin blues scene in the 70'S working with Paul Ray and the Cobras alongside guitarists Stevie Ray Vaughan and Denny Freeman.
During this period, Joe also worked regularly at Antones Blues Club, backing many blues artists including Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Otis Rush, David 'Fathead' Newman, Junior Wells, Memphis Slim, Matt Murphy, Hubert Sumlin, Lazy Lester, Pinetop Perkins and Hank Ballard among others, as well as touring the U.S. with The Cobras. In 1986, Joe moved to Los Angeles where he has remained an in demand recording and touring musician.
Since moving to L.A., Joe has recorded with The Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chris Cornell, Bono, The Band, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, Delaney Bramlett,Richard Thompson, Macy Gray, Los Lonely Boys, Keb Mo, B.B. King, The Black Crowes, Dr. John, T-Bone Burnett, Bette Midler, Etta James, Jimmy Smith, Tracy Chapman, Tift Merritt, Dionne Warwick, The Crickets, Memphis Slim, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Jimmy Vaughan, Lou Ann Barton, Jimmy Buffett, John Mayall, Solomon Burke, Otis Rush, Ian McLagen, Johnny Rivers, Maria Muldaur, Percy Sledge, Anna Popovic and many more.
Joe won a Grammy and a W.C. Handy Award in 2000 for his work with Taj Mahal and the Phantom Blues Band and continues to record and tour with The Phantom Blues Band who released 'Out of the Shadows' in 2006 and 'Footprints' in 2007 on Delta Groove Records.
He has written horn arrangements for recording sessions, composed music for films and has toured and performed with Taj Mahal, Little Feat, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Band, Otis Rush, Bonnie Raitt, B.B.King, Delbert McClinton, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Hank Ballard, Johnny Rivers and The Blues Brothers to name a few.
Joe has just finished a solo CD for a 2008 release. Joe, along with trumpet player Darrell Leonard, is co-leader of the Texacali Horns. Their compositions and arrangements are featured on their debut CD, 'Darrell Leonard/ Joe Sublett-Texacali Horns' which was released on New Light Entertainment
