It's not everyday that you bump into a young man of 21 years like myself who enjoys all forms of music from Hardcore to R'n'B... from Metal to Grime... and from World Beat to Jazz. Thats the main reason why I knew I had something different from everyone else when I was growing up in high school. I had always been different from alot of the kids I was surrounded with. It's not that I didn't fit in... I just didn't lead the average sort of lifestyle. When everyone else was goin to parties and making out with each other, I was at home playing video games like a nerd or trying to find out new hobbies. Eventually, I rediscovered my love for music (after a few years of taking a break from being a choir boy) and decided to learn how to play the guitar and how to produce music in the vicinity of my bedroom.
I guess it all REALLY started when I was much younger literally. As a baby, my parents recalled that I'd bounce to whatever was on the radio and had a phat beat to it. I really don't even know why... music just has that effect on certain people naturally from infancy. But its not everyone who can actually take from that, process it, and create something phenomenal. It takes skill, lots of time and well, if you're gifted with a good ear for the creation of music then you've got an upper hand.
Born in Africa but raised abroad (I grew up in the middle east for the majority of my life), I embraced many cultures as I was growing up. With the culture came appreciation for all the facets of life and one major facet which all of them seemed to have was music. I never restricted my tastes to one particular genre of music because I knew that in every genre there was something beautfiul to be heard and methods to be learnt. Soon enough I knew that I had to create something which would encorporate all of my favourite features from different genres of music.
June 2002, the project began under the name "Morbid Gecko". With the aid of some friends and my computer we soon found our ways about producing 3 minute tracks with insane beats to them. Sure enough, they were TOO simplistic and endless nights of learning new tricks to create songs became a fad. Most of my friends just gave up with the whole idea since they wanted it all to come to them naturally from the start but I held on and continued to master the art...
I started off with techno and electronica for "Morbid Gecko" as I was inspired by "The Prodigy" and "MAXIM" of the prodigy to make dance music. It was only until April 2006 that I decided to start making hip hop/grime/garage beats.
4 years down the line, and now as a Business student at Brock University, i'm still learning about the whole process and although i've learnt so much on my own, theres so much more to learn...
