Maria Soccor was raised and educated in the state of New Jersey. Her career in the arts began at the tender age of 9. At 13, she was invited into Gallman's Newark Dance Theater as a junior company member. This training presented Maria the opportunity to demonstrate her talents in a public forum. While preparing for a gala dance event she was discovered by a representative of an upscale apparel company who contracted Maria to represent their company in a national campaign.By the age of 14 Maria was well on her way to a lucrative modeling career. Other companies quickly began to capitalize on her exotic but commercial look. She went on to do national campaigns and commercials for ANHEUSER BUSCH, GITANO, REVLON, among other Fortune 500 companies. She has done many covers, and some fashion since her height was only 5'5". Nonetheless, she has achieved great plateaus in the beauty, print, and in the urban market. Her modeling endeavors naturally gave birth to a commercial acting career. Companies such as Coca Cola and Nestle Chocolate have employed Maria to represent their product both nationally and internationally. Maria truly became an international commodity as her exploits took her around the world traveling to Europe, Asia, and Latin America on exotic photo shoots and modeling assignments. She is still being featured on many prestigious and independent magazine covers and spreads.Returning from Japan and then moving to New York, it was not long before the world of film and television began to seek her talent. Honing her craft under the late Uta Hagen, she has appeared as a regular on the soap opera Another World playing Carolyn Diaz, and the hit sitcom Cosby as a warm and beautiful waitress. Her television appearances introduced Maria to a new audience and eventually the silver screen, where she appeared in such films as Rounders, Undefeated, and the soon to be released Jersey Justice. In between her busy modeling and acting career Maria entered and won several high profile pageants. She held the title Ms. Teen Galaxy, Ms. National Cover Girl, Ms New York, and culminating with Ms. National USA. She retired from competition to concentrate on her acting and modeling career. Her seminar, The Ethics of Competition, How to Always Win, is still presented in selective states.Finishing two manuscripts of poetry, Maria is a published poet, and has occasionally taught non credited classes in Writing Poetry. She is active in her community with a local womans battered shelter, and is involved with several charity events. Some of the organizations she belongs to are Amnesty International and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. She formed two companies; Maria Soccor Productions and Wild Iris Films. As a Producer, Maria is cultivating roles for actors and herself, that empower their lives. Her love for Independent Film has encouraged her to find challenging projects that can show and truly encompass the human experience. In the fall of 2006, she will have completed her studies at Montclair State University as an English Major with a concentration in Creative Writing, and a major in Womens Studies.
