The Lookie Loo’s…a treat from the Tron…Now I know it makes me sound really lame when I say this, so I’m just gonna’ put it out there for you to judge…
Up until this weekend at the Mole Music Christmas party, I hadn’t seen or even heard The Lookie Loos play…I know!
They’ve recently released their EP, Timing is Everything which has received excellent reviews, so there was no hesitation from me to go along and see the guys in all their glory.Because the party included 10 different bands on two stages, Friday night at The Sub was busier than I’ve ever seen, which seemed to expand even more when the lads were preparing to jump on stage.
Oh yeah, it was time to join the rest of the foot-taping, head-banging (or maybe I should say ecstatic head-bopping?!) flock for some Lookie Loo’s action. From the crowd they drew in they’re obviously a much loved Hamilton band, and from the minute they came on, I instantly saw why.
They’re a charismatic bunch, who were more than happy to greet the crowd with polite smiles and hellos before getting into their show. It must also be noted that a top effort was made by guitarist, Dan Reece, who managed to pull off the skinniest white jeans you’ve ever seen teamed up with a beautiful green patterned shirt that he could have only stolen from the 70’s!With no set list planned, the lads blasted out whatever songs they were in the mood for, including clear favourites off their EP, Sweet Release, Count to Ten and Lead her to the Car.
Each was as energetically played as the last making everyone jump up and down like kids in a bouncy castle for more catchy tunes. At one stage I somehow managed to get the long hair of the guy in front of me in my face! But hey, at least it wasn’t in my mouth, right?!
Other songs of the night were Wiggle and Move, Friends all Around and The Veils’, Nux Vomica which saw even more hair being thrown round the place! Now what’s even better than that crazy ecstatic head-bopping is seeing these guys really get into their music and having a good time on stage. I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again…I love bands who truly enjoy performing for a crowd and with The Lookie Loo’s, that’s exactly what you get. I couldn’t tell if the crowd was getting the excitement from them, or if it was the other way round, but damn it was a good show! For a nice start to your BDO, I prescribe these guys, to ensure good times all round.Amanda Ratcliffe
