Lahaina News: Festival to showcase diverse ukulele masters BY LOUISE ROCKETT Los Angeles player Tony Gamble will blast the slippers off ukulele traditionalists when he pumps the stage with his high-octane, heavy rock fusion mix at 5:10 p.m. The 29-year-old instrumentalist isnt shy about describing himself on the Internet (www.myspace.com/killerukulele) as the first and only bad boy of ukulele. terrifying ukulele like you have never heard. The ukulele is a relatively new instrumental experience for the Rock City Award-winning guitarist: Rock style (on the ukulele) Ive been playing for years, but have played other styles for several years. Its fun to play, and I want to show people its a universal and versatile instrument, Gamble remarked. This is Gambles first trip to the islands. Kanae looks forward to the mind-bending performance: We, in Hawaii, like to claim the ukulele as one of our instruments, and its unique to have someone outside of our culture showcase the ukulele. Tony was on the KHNL News 8 morning show on July 24th. The show started at 5am, so he had to be there at 4:30am for sound check and setup. It was freezing in the studio!! Tony played 4 times, including an interview with Marvin. Both Marvin Buenconsejo and Angela Keen are great and they loved Tony!!
Tony was on the KHUI 99.5 FM morning show on July 26th. Another early show, it started at 6am. Tony went on at 7am. He interviewed with Tiny and Dawn, and it was great! Alan also put in a few words as well.
Tony performed at Pipeline Cafe on July 23rd. The event was for Mahn Nguyen, who was killed while driving his taxi. His family was in mourning, however it was a great event. Tony's father also passed away 2 years to the date, and so it was a special event for him as well..............
