You can rest assured the DJ’s and artists who perform at JOY are chosen not only for their skill and quality but also with originality in mind, (with regard to bookings at other club nights).This is something that’s becoming somewhat of a rarity in this current time of the dance music scene.
JOY is definitely a night for the more discerning clubber.
Events Branded "JOY CLASSICS" not only feature the music that’s rocked the Joy dance floors over the years but also from the time it was much bigger than the DJ!!

A brief insight to the history of JOY:
It all started in 1989 when I was first introduced to this new (to me) sound called “house” music. But it wasn’t until 1993 when I finally got the chance to experience the underground dance music scene properly when I attended a huge rave in Leeds, the atmosphere was just phenomenal!.
I knew as soon as I walked through the doors I had to be a part of it all!!....
By great luck I had an opportunity with a long term friend to start up our own party in a old mill, a string of illegal events soon followed, area 54, The Mill and also co promoted a night called Hush. (This gave me a chance to sample ideas I would later employ with joy) This was a great time in the history of JOY, neither I or my friend really knew what we were doing, we just learnt as we went on and people seemed to embrace our diverse styles. One of these excellent partys eventually led on to gaining a residency at a reputable event in my surrounding area but it wasn’t really what I was looking for.
Although this did open many doors and led on to guest slots at many different events, we soon realized we were never intended to be just DJ’s,...
The next stage was our first legal event. “The ultimate Anthem”. This was a House classics event held in a small capacity venue in Bradford. It was the only venue that would take us on at that time We did try but nobody took us seriously.
These events went on for almost 2 years and were a huge success. It was off the back of these that we gained the confidence and the respect to allow us to move onto something on a much larger scale. After many disagreements with the venue owners in Bradford and a number of let downs we decided even though they had given us the chance in the first place enough was enough.....
This is when the larger JOY events were born, which at this point was a house classics event, it focused on the harder and more progressive side of the 90’s club scene music and not the more common and more importantly, over played anthems like many other so called classics nights were playing.
Id had the idea for JOY few years earlier but the timing was never right, this was the perfect chance to put the ideas into action. We have never looked back since and making the move really kick started what was to come.
Despite all our critics in the early stages, and after an enormous amount of hard work and determination Joy has been a great success, having many capacity filled events in the premiere venues of our home city, Leeds. Joy has also held events in Bradford, Manchester and Sheffield, and has featured at both of the excellent and memorable Love Leeds events which were held at lotherton hall, Leeds. These were an amazing experience to say the least.
It’s not all been plain sailing though, Over the years we have suffered many set backs and in some cases admittedly bad decisions but these have only the made the brand stronger and much more determined.
We did however, stick true to the original intention and progressed the brand into what I would describe as been a purist techno and electronic music event, it is never easy making such a switch, especially in this current climate but the best thing about all this is, there is so much more to come!.
The JOY resdident DJ's are: Kells&Tots, Missperception, Caine Brown and I.D. with regular appearances from Mike Humphries.
