Hearing the Prodigy in 1991 lead to an unhealthy thirst for the more "colourful" side of music. Growing up in the nineties I listened to tapes from massive nights like kinetic, fantazia and helterskelter which sharpened my ear to the faster, darker sound of hardcore techno, noting Human Recource, Cox, Loftgroover, Lenny Dee and Producer as huge favourites.I attended the sellout HelterSkelter 'Energy 97' event and went for the first time to the Orbit in Morley. I was hooked on both. But the Orbit sound caught my imagination with Dj's like Mills, Bolland, Beltram Surgeon and Luke Slater. When I acquired some decks, I had to decide which music was for me as neither collection was getting anywhere. After Flogging my deathchant records (big mistake) I concentrated on techno. And a few years later was given the chance to play techno at Kells & Tots' early Bradford Joy events in the alternative room. This continued until they parted company with the venue and moved on to big and better things. I have recently joined back with the joy team after a while and look forward to witnessing the evolution of their night!
