All old-school hip-hop, all day. Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, Boogie Down Productions, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Curtis Blow, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, De La Soul...I could go on for days. If I had to pick a favorite MC, I would have to choose Rakim because his flow to me was smooth as silk, and you woukld be hard pressed to hear a curse word from anything he ever made. A rapper who can flow without cursing? Name two since 1990 and we'll talk. My favorite rapper of the here and now? Hands down, Mos Def. Hip-hop's original def poet. Gotta love him.
As for music in general, my favorite female singer is Mary J. Blige, always and forever and ever. My favorite male singer is Prince. (And I'm a real Prince fan who knows the words to 90% of his songs on everything since Soft and Wet). And my favorite group of all time is Tony, Toni, Tone. Now that was real music. I miss them.
