Justin Blackson, professionally known as Jus. B, is hard at work creating a buzz for himself in the streets. Born in Omaha, NE, Jus. B is considered to be one of the cities best kept secrets. But with his unique sound, and 6-foot-plus stature, it will be hard to miss this cat.
Born September 10, 1988, JB is the 2nd eldest of 5. Since an early age, many always complimented JB on being something special, not knowing that his gift would expand to touch everyone he came in contact with. Jumpstarting JB’s creative side was his interest in poetry. In elementary school, he always found time to write on the issues of his life. Whether it be puppy love, or family life, JB always had a creative way of expressing himself. As a 6th grader in the year 2000, JB experienced a great loss when his older cousin Lamont Pratt passed away due to a heart-attack. The pain he felt over losing his close cousin triggered something far more creative than any poem he could ever write. One day, while sitting writing of the pain he felt, JB’s lyrics suddenly changed into song. It was as if God had opened up chords and pitches JB never knew he possessed. And the song titled “Lamont†was the start of something great for Justin.
After realizing his gift of song, Justin exercised it daily. However, he only practiced in the privacy of his home. Doing this, Justin never experienced the feeling of performing in front of people. So he never showcased his talents with anyone other than close family members. Throughout middle school, no one knew Justin possessed the gift of singing. Not until the end of his 8th grade year, did he decide to give performing a try. Justin auditioned for his schools talent show. Unfortunately, he did not make it into the talent show, but his gift did raise an interest from the school’s music teachers. The teachers were so amazed by his vocal ability that they ALL recommended Justin continue singing in high school.
As a freshman in high school, Justin became involved in choirs and musicals. Still, Justin didn’t feel he possessed the ability to sing solo’s and or anything by himself. Being taken under the wing of his choir director, Mr. Clay Blackman, Justin soon blossomed into a performing machine. Learning to use his stage, Justin became very comfortable with performing in front of any and everybody. During Justin’s junior year in high school, he met someone who he calls his best friend right now. Shannon Marie, calling herself the “rap princess of the Oâ€, took an interest in Justin after hearing him sing on a college tour trip to Atlanta, GA. The two came to put out the hit mixtape single “Chirp Backâ€. From recording this, producer Alfonzo Jones took an interest in Justin as well. Taking him under his wing, Alfonzo transformed Justin into a recording artist and signed him to his independent label, ICON ONE Music.
To this day, Jus.B is still recording with ICON O.NE. And he has worked with many artist around the country as well as locals from his city.
